BARBARA CARROLL IN OAK ROOM SUNDAYS

INAUGURATES JAZZ BRUNCH & DINNER SERIES

THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/) proudly announces that the acclaimed jazz pianist-vocalist Barbara Carroll will inaugurate its Sunday Brunch & Dinner series, beginning Sunday November 9th and continuing every Sunday through December 28th. A recent honoree by the Kennedy Center's Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival, Ms. Carroll will be accompanied by bassist Sean Smith. Sunday Brunch will be served at 12:00 noon with a show at 2:00 pm, for an inclusive $65.00 per person. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm, with a show at 8:00 pm, including a $40 cover charge and a $40 dinner per person.

Barbara Carroll, who began playing piano at five, attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, but her nighttime gigs at local jazz clubs ran so late that she left school for the life of a jazz musician. In New York, she played opposite Dizzy Gillespie's big band at the Downbeat Club on famed 52nd Street. Another memorable engagement was opposite Teddy Wilson, whom she'd written to as a young girl in the hope he'd become her teacher, a letter he claimed he never received. Her influences also included Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans, a group of keyboard stars to which her name would be a welcome addition. If you want great melodies as well as great musicianship, Ms. Carroll's Oak Room appearances will offer evidence that you can have it all.

She has recorded for RCA, Verve and Atlantic, and her extensive discography includes such gems as Everything I Love, This Heart of Mine, Lullabies in Rhythm 2002s One Morning in May.
