Hampton Callaway to Perform at Stoneham Theatre
Jazz
and cabaret star, Ann Hampton Callaway, will appear in a special solo
performance on Saturday, January 12th, at 8:00 pm at the STONEHAM
THEATRE (395 Main Street, Stoneham, MA - 781-279-2200). Callaway was
nominated for a Tony Award in 2000 for her starring role in the Broadway
musical hit, "Swing," and has appeared as a special guest artist with
Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops at Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall
and on national television. Her composition, "At the Same Time," was
recorded by Barbra Streisand for her CD, "Higher Ground," which debuted
nationally at #1. Ms. Streisand asked Ann to write lyrics to a Rolf
Loveland melody, which she entitled, "I've Dreamed of You," and was
sung by Streisand to James Brolin at their wedding and recorded for
her CD, "A Love Like Ours." Streisand's new Christmas CD (released
October 30th), includes yet another Callaway song "A Christmas Lullaby."
With performances on The
Today Show, CNN, The Charlie Rose Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, PBS,
ABC News and many others, Callaway also travels the international
jazz and concert circuit and is working on several songwriting projects
for film and Broadway. She is branching into radio beginning this
month as host of a program on the new Serious Satellite Network and
is working on a national musical/variety TV show which will debut
in February. Callaway is the winner of ASCAP'S "Johnny Mercer Songwriting
Award," and is the only composer officially recognized as a collaborator
of Cole Porter for writing lyrics to his posthumously discovered tune,
"I Gaze In Your Eyes."
