"Weekend
with Ann Hampton Callaway" at THE PENTHOUSE
Polly
Bergen, Betty Buckley, Liz Callaway, Barbara Carroll and songwriters
Rupert Holmes and John Bucchino will join Ann Hampton Callaway during
her "Weekend with Ann Hampton Callaway" concerts May 8th, 9th and
10th at Lincoln Center's award-winning AMERICAN SONGBOOK series, at
the STANLEY H. KAPLAN PENTHOUSE (165 West 65 Street, NYC - 212-721-6500).
The weekend begins May
8th with a "Master Class" conducted by Ms. Callaway, during which
she will coach with fledgling (and not-so-fledgling) singers in the
art of performance, and on May 9th, "Request Night," will find the
cabaret star performing songs voted on in advance by the SONGBOOK
audience. (see song list below). The trio of concerts will conclude
May 10th with Ms. Bergen, Ms. Buckley, et. al. featured as guest stars
in "The Callaway Hour," an hour of chat and song reminiscent of TV
variety shows of days gone by.
Here are some details:
May 8th at 8:00 pm - Ann
will conduct a "Master Class" with 8 singers - both young and not-so-young
- each of whom will perform a song, which Ann will critique, and then
they'll perform that song again. This is a most unusual event - a
"Master Class" conducted by one of pop music's most beloved singer/songwriters,
in front of an audience. Among the young singers will be Staten Island
Wagner College music majors Gregory J. Bechtel and Meryl Bezutczyk.
Tickets $25.
May 9th at 8:00 & 10:00
pm - "Request Night" - Throughout the month of April, ticket holders
to this concert have been voting for the songs they would most like
to hear Ann perform. This list, so far, includes "Isn't it Romantic?"
"I'll be Seeing You," "But Not for Me," "Mr. Paganini," and "Lush
Life." A sort of "people's choice night" (8:00 pm: $45) (10:00 pm:
$30)
May 10th at 8:00 & 10:00
pm - "The Callaway Hour" - A variety-style program with chat and song
starring Polly Bergen, Barbara Carroll and songwriter Rupert Holmes
join Ann for the 8:00 pm show ($45); and Betty Buckley, Ann's sister
Liz Callaway and songwriter John Bucchino join her for the 10 pm show
($30).
