September 11th: In Our Own Words" at Church of St. Paul & St. Andrew

In remembrance of September 11th, a special program at THE CHURCH OF ST. PAUL & ST. ANDREW (550 West End Avenue at 86th Street,, NYC) will be performed on Wednesday at 11th starting at 7:00 pm. First will be an interfaith service conducted by the congregations of St. Paul & St. Andrew and BƒNai Jeshurun. Jan Hoffman, NY Times reporter and writer for many of the "Profiles of Grief" stories, will be a guest speaker. There will be a short intermission, followed by a performance of "September 11th. In Our Own Words" begins at 8:00 pm. Admission is free to the public.

"September 11th: In Our Own Words" is a 50-minute theatrical revue which shares the experiences of one community in New York City after the events of 9/11 is the result of the efforts of a group of professional artists from the Church of St. Paul & St. Andrew. This piece combines new music for violin, cello and piano by composer, Jill Jaffe, along with spirituals, musical theater, folk rock and modern dance which have been integrated with these interviews to weave a poignant and memorable journey.

These interviews were conducted by Sarah Brockus, Annie Evans, Barbara Grecki and Charlotte Patton, members of the congregation, who then created the theatrical format for these stories to be told. Performances were held in December, February and June and the audience responses have always been that of a shared hopefulness and healing.
