Doug
Trapp brings his new one-man cabaret, THE TRAPP FAMILY SINGER to the
LORING PLAYHOUSE (624 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN - 612-486-5757)
for two nights, Monday and Tuesday, Sept 9th & 10. both shows at 7:30
pm. Tickets are $10. Reservations are highly recommended.
THE TRAPP FAMILY SINGER
is an evening of songs and stories about a boy and his southern family.
Doug was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee and became a yankee
14 years ago when he moved to Minneapolis. Songs range from classics
by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, and Jerry Herman to contemporary
works by composers John Bucchino, Shelly Markham, and Zena Goldrich
& Marcy Heisler.
Doug was accepted to the
2000 Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center's Cabaret Symposium in Waterford,
Conn. where he studied with such talented cabaret singers and musicicans
as Julie Wilson, Margaret Whiting, Sally Mayes, Carol Hall and Shelly
Markham.
Doug came to Minneapolis
to work in advertising as an art director. His 10-year career included
six years at Martin/Williams where he won nearly every award in the
industry. In 1998, he felt the need to pursue his lifelong dream of
theatre. Now a full-time performer, Doug has played leading roles
at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres,
The Fargo Theatre, Children's Theatre Company, Loring Playhouse, Jon
Hassler Theatre, Minneapolis Theater Garage, Theater in the Round
and Bryant Lake Bowl. And in Texas at Galveston Island Outdoor Musicals.
He holds a BA in theatre and communications from Rhodes College in
Memphis, and did his graduate work in art direction at The Portfolio
Center in Atlanta.
The music director and
pianist is David Lohman. An accomplished musician, David most recently
served as the music director for the smash hit "Anything Goes" at
The Ordway with Sandy Duncan. Other music director credits at The
Ordway include "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," and the world premier
of "Adventures in Love." Prior to that, he spent 3 1/2 years as associate
conductor of Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera." Regional credits
include "A Little Night Music," "Closer Than Ever," "Forbidden Broadway"
and "Forever Plaid." Arrangements and recordings include "Shenandoah/They
Call the Wind Maria" for Brian Boitano and Christmas Center Stage.
He holds a BA in acting, and did his graduate work in conducting at
Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.
