The 2002 Sydney Cabaret Convention at Sydney Town Hall in July


Five Nights of Cabaret, Tuesday July 23rd through Saturday, July 27th

Australia's Premier Cabaret Showcase, opens at the Cabaret Room, Sydney Town Hall on July 23rd and runs until July 27th. This City of Sydney initiative, now in its 6th year, provides a unique forum for talented, emerging cabaret artists to perform to an audience of industry professionals, the general public and alongside Australia's finest cabaret stars.

This year's Convention has secured top Australian artists to perform during the Cabaret Season, including Deborah Cheetham, Judi Connelli, Deborah Conway, Chelsea Gibb, Wayne Scott Kermond, Melissa Langton (2001 winner), Rick Lau, Genevieve Lemon, Jeannie Lewis, Jimmy Little, Chelsea Plumley, Janet Seidel Trio, Gina Zoia with Spencer McLaren as the MC.

For the second year, the delightful Toni Lamond will be the Ambassador for the 2002 Sydney Cabaret Convention.

The Sydney Cabaret Convention has three main components:

* The Showcase MC'd by Spencer McLaren which runs from Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 July in the Cabaret Room in Lower Town Hall. Catering is available in our intimate and stylish cabaret venue. Each Showcase session features a line-up of talented emerging showcase participants who have seven minutes to perform two songs with some patter in between. Headline artists also perform at the Showcase sessions.

* The Masterclass session on Saturday afternoon in the Lower Town Hall will provide up and comers with professional guidance from the dazzling and legendary Kerrie Biddell.

* The Gala closing night on Saturday 27 July is MC'd by Spencer McLaren in the stunning Centennial Hall and features performances by Showcase award recipients and a line-up of Australia's top cabaret artists. Dinner and show requires pre booking.

Participants in the Showcase sessions will vie for three prizes announced at the Gala event.

The City of Sydney Award

Round-trip economy, direct airfare to New York and an invitation to perform at the 2002 New York Cabaret Convention, October 23rd to 27th. This award is available only to individual performers.

The New York Award

Round-trip economy direct airfare to New York and a guest pass to the 2002 New York Cabaret Convention. This award will be presented to the performance judged to be best suited to benefit from exposure to the New York cabaret scene.

Corporate Gold Award

The award of $500.00 is open to all Showcase performers, including groups, and will be awarded to the act judged most suited to corporate events.
