Elaine St. George in "Ain't We Got Fun?" at Don't Tell Mama in October

Elaine St. George, whose cabaret show "The Girl That I Marry" was named a "Critic's Pick" by Time Out NY, returns to the cabaret stage with a new show, "Ain't We Got Fun?: a love story about looking for work" - at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/) on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:30 pm; Thursday, October 17th at 9:00 pm; and Sunday, October 27th at 4:30 pm. The musical director of "Ain't We Got Fun?" is Tedd Firth, an accomplished pianist (Time Out NY called him "extraordinary") who has played for jazz singer Carol Sloane and countless cabaret artists. There is no cover charge for the show. Instead, Ms. St. George asks that audience members bring non-perishable canned food or a monetary donation for the Food Bank For New York City, Food For Survival. The club's 2-drink minimum still applies.

Offstage, Ms. St. George is a writer. When her "day job" took a hit when the economy crumbled, Elaine started looking for work, like tens of thousands of other people in the New York area. And she soon realized that in many ways, looking for a job was just like dating and looking for love. Following that logic, "Ain't We Got Fun?" combines love songs by the likes of Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Arthur Schwartz, and Charles Strouse with humorous selections from the 1920s through 2000.

Instead of paying a cover charge for her show, food and/or monetary donation will be accepted for The Food Bank For New York City, which provides the food for over 200,000 meals every day to New Yorkers in need through more than 1,000 nonprofit community programs. It was founded in 1983 to coordinate the procurement and distribution of food donations from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies to organizations providing free food to the hungry. A member of America's Second Harvest, it is now the largest food bank and one of the largest distributors of free fresh produce in the country.
