Cabaret Performer Vickie Smith Returns to Don't Tell Mama

"BLUE SKIES" COMING YOUR WAY

Singer Vickie Smith is back with a new show, reflecting her sunny personality called "Blue Skies." Accompanied by her new musical director, Bryon Sommers, and the added talent of Frank Wagner on bass, the show runs for four nights only at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/), on Sunday, February 17th at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, February 19th at 7:00 pm Saturday, February 23rd at 8:00 pm, and Wednesday February 27th at 7:00 pm. There is a $12.00 cover charge, plus a 2-drink minimum. Half-price cover for MAC and NYSMS members, and Seniors 65+.

A classically-trained singer with an impressive range, Vickie loves to share her vocal talents in a more intimate environment. Originally singing with swing-bands, she discovered that this medium didn't offer her an opportunity to connect with the audience. She then went on to perform for delighted nursing home audiences, who could recall their youth while listening to their favorite songs.

After graduating from the Linda Amiel Burn's "Singing Experience" cabaret performance workshop, Vickie was inspired to present her own show, "With a Smile and a Song," which won her a MAC nomination for Best New York Female Cabaret D¢but.

With an accent on jazz and swing in this show, selections include "Stompin' at the Savoy," with additional Iyrics by Ann Hampton Callaway, "All the Way," her own jazzed-up version of "New York State of Mind," incorporating rich vocal harmonies, and, of course, an upbeat "Blue Skies."

Lesser-known treasures in this unique blend of melodies include, "There They Are," a gem found on the 70s hit album, "Funky Town," "Music Speaks Louder Than Words," recorded only by Peter, Paul and Mary, and "Taro Patch Twist," a fun tune.
