THE YORK THEATRE PRESENTS "PORTERPHILES"

NEW MUSICAL REVUE OF UNPUBLISHED COLE PORTER SONGS

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to creating and producing new musicals and preserving under-appreciated musicals from the past, will present the World Premiere of "porterphiles," a new musical revue of unpublished Cole Porter songs. Performances begin Tuesday, December 3rd at THE YORK THEATRE at Saint Peter's Church (619 Lexington Avenue, NYC, Entrance on 54th - Tkts: Tele-Charge: 1-212-239-6200 - http://www.yorktheatre.org/) with the opening on Thursday, December 19th at 8:00 pm, and continuing through January 12th, 2003. (There will be no performances on December 25th or January 1st and no matinee on December 8th or 14th.) The performance schedule for "porterphiles" is Tuesday through Saturdays at 8:00 pm with matinees Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays at 2:30 pm. All seats are $45 with Senior/Student tickets available.

Devised by Cole Porter expert Judy Brown with the blessing of the Porter Trust, the revue will be directed by the York's Artistic Director, James Morgan with musical staging by Barry McNabb. Costumes will be designed by Margiann Flanagan, with lighting by Mary Jo Dondlinger and sets by Mr. Morgan. This first MainStage production of the York's season features Lynne Halliday, Ricky Russell and Stephen Zinnato singing songs guaranteed to give audiences new appreciation of Porter's timeless genius.

Unpublished songs in the revue include "We Shall Never Be Younger," "The Extra Man," and "A Weekend Affair," all by Mr. Porter, as well as another 30 or so songs by the author of "Kiss Me Kate," "Anything Goes," "Silk Stockings" and "Can-Can."

Judy Brown, who conceived "porterphiles" and is the show's Musical Director, is a leading authority on the music of Cole Porter including his entire unpublished output. She compiled and edited COLE PORTER REDISCOVERED for Warner Bros. Publications and has recorded "Unmined Cole: Unpublished Gems of Cole Porter" with soprano Paulina Stark.

Lynne Halliday was 'The Voice' in American Ballet Theatre's World Premiere of "Weren't We Fools" and played 'Mimi' in the Judy Brown/Thommie Walsh souffle "Pied a Terre," both with music by Cole Porter. She appeared in the American premiere of Charles Strouse's "A Whole Lotta Living," the award-winning "Women@Work" and the off-Broadway revival of "The Rothchilds."

Ricky Russell has been seen in "Forever Plaid" (Las Vegas, L.A., San Diego); "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber" (European tour); "Evita," "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Scrooge."

Stephen Zinnato played leading roles in the York's productions of "By Jupiter" and "Me & Juliet" as well as 'Hugh' in the off-Broadway hit "The Prince and the Pauper." In addition to playing 'Father' in the national company of "Ragtime," he plays Nolan on "Guiding Light."

James Morgan has directed productions of "As Bees in Honey Drown," "Sylvia," "Oh, Coward!" "Falsettoland" (Carbonell Awards for Best Director and Best Musical), and three York premieres: Clark Gesner's "The Jello Is Always Red," the Australian musical "Prodigal" and the John LaTouche revue "Taking A Chance on Love."

Barry McNabb. (musical staging) has directed and choreographed productions of "Chicago" and "West Side Story" and choreographed the new musical of "When Harry Met Sally" in Barcelona. On Broadway, he has been seen in "Phantom," "Dancin'" and "Me and My Girl."
