A Night for Natalie

A Benefit for Natalie Douglas - July 15th, 2002, 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre

On June 18th, jazz vocalist Natalie Douglas was rushed into emergency surgery. This latest series of operations comes on the heels of what has been an unbelievably trying time for Natalie's health, coming so soon after two other medical procedures that took her out of the running for several months.

On Monday, July 15th, the cabaret community will come together to play their part in assisting Natalie's speedy recovery. These recent surgeries have placed an enormous financial and emotional strain on Natalie, and the cabaret community as been drawn together to lend a hand. Two special benefit performances have been planned at THE DUPLEX (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/).

The 9:00 pm performance will feature cabaret luminaries Bobby Belfry, Patrick DeGennaro, Natalie Gamsu, Rick Jensen, Karen Mack & Michael Holland, Sidney Myer, Julie Reyburn and the vocal group Black Tie. The 11:00 pm performance will feature David Budway, Jim Caruso, Charles Cermele, Lina Koutrakos, Audrey Lavine, Jim Luzar, Phillip Officer, and Johnny Rodgers. Both shows will be musically directed by Mark Hartman. There is a $15 donation, and a two-drink minimum per show. No credit cards will be accepted, and reservations are strongly recommended.

Ms. Douglas has received the 1998 and 2001 MAC Awards for Outstanding Jazz Vocalist and has been nominated for this award for six straight years. She has also been honored with the MAC-Hanson Award and the Backstage Bistro Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist, and her critically acclaimed debut CD, "Not That Different," was nominated for a 2000 MAC Award for Outstanding Recording. Natalie has garnered rave reviews for her concerts and performances at many New York City cabarets and is a regular at Town Hall, including numerous appearances at the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Conventions, the 2002 MAC Awards and most recently in Scott Siegel's concert series, "Broadway By The Year: 1940," which has just been released on Bayview Records.

Natalie can currently be seen on the PBS Series, "Cabaret Live" and can be heard on the closing credits of the award-winning documentary, "Five Wives, Three Secretaries and Me." Natalie has been profiled in articles in Out Magazine, Canadian Magazine and Cabaret Scenes, among others. Her recent performance at The Duplex as part of the "Downtown Revivals" series was a sell-out.
