Mardie Millit Returns to Don't Tell Mama in IT'S LOVE! (or a damn fine facsimile)

The versatile singer/actress Mardie Millit is making her return engagement in her cabaret show, "IT'S LOVE! (or a damn fine facsimile)," playing February 18th and 25th and March 5th and 12th, all shows at 9:00 pm at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/), There is a $10 cover, 2-drink minimum.

"The pursuit of love “ with the handicap of an overdeveloped sense of irony" is the theme of this collection of songs from the world of theatre, pop and jazz, which loosely follows the story of our heroine as she journeys from innocence to cynicism and beyond. Letting the songs tell their story, Mardie concentrates on lyrics that amuse, surprise, delight and even shock.

Some of the great twentieth century composers and lyricists celebrated are Kander & Ebb, Marc Blitzstein, Rodgers & Hart, Hank Beebe, Lerner & Lane, Stephen Sondheim, Bock & Harnick, and NoÔl Coward. Unproduced works by contemporary composers and lyricists are also represented in this eclectic, funny and moving show. At the piano for this engagement will be Seth Weinstein. Original musical direction was by Ken Lundie, and the show's director is Jay E. Raphael, with Philip Officer as artistic consultant.

Mardie Millit, a singer with a diverse background in classical, theatrical and pop music, has been seen in the New York area as Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" and Musetta in "La Boheme," and co-starred in the pop revue "Gift from the Heart: the Pat Rasile Songbook." Regionally she has performed the roles of Christine in Yeston's "Phantom," Sophie in Terrence McNally's "Master Class," Sarah in "Guys & Dolls," and Maria in "The Sound of Music," among others. She has recorded original material for several songwriting teams, and is a regular performer at SAM'S DREAM STREET CABARET (263 West 45th Street, NYC - 212-719-5416) in the theatre district.
