MAC CELEBRATES THE BEST OF MANHATTAN'S 2001 CABARET SEASON AT THE TOWN HALL


BUCKY PIZZARELLI, KAREN AKERS AND CABARET SCENES MAGAZINE TO RECEIVE HONORS

OVER 100 VOCALISTS, COMEDIANS, JAZZ PERFORMERS, SONGWRITERS, ORIGINAL REVUES, DIRECTORS, MUSICAL DIRECTORS RECEIVE NOMINATIONS MONDAY, APRIL 1st AT TOWN HALL

The best of Cabaret will be celebrated when MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs - http://www.macnyc.com/) presents the 2002 MAC Awards on Monday, April 1st at THE TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC - http://www.the-townhall-nyc.org/) at 7:30 pm. Tickets, ranging from $25 - $125, can be purchased after March 11th through TicketMaster at (212) 307-4100 or at the Town Hall box office.

MAC will honor master Jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli with the Lifetime Achievement Award. International cabaret chanteuse Karen Akers and the monthly publication Cabaret Scenes will be honored with Board of Directors Awards. The producer, Barry Levitt, and the director, Broadway's Pamela Sousa, will collaborate on the star-packed event to include live performances from honorees Pizzarelli and Akers, as well as Chris Calloway, Peter Cincotti, Scott Coulter, Baby Jane Dexter, Natalie Gamsu, Debbie Gravitte, Audrey Lavine, Heather MacRae, Donna McKechnie, Mark Nadler, Phillip Officer, Martin Pizzarelli, Craig Rubano, Billy Stritch, KT Sullivan, and other special guests.

John Pizzarelli will be on hand to perform a special tribute to his father and present him with his Lifetime Achievement Award. Also scheduled to present awards are Bill Boggs, John Bucchino, Jim Caruso, Angela LaGreca, Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson, and Jack Wrangler, among others. MAC Award-winning comedian, Ron Poole, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

With March designated as "Cabaret Month" by the City of New York, The MAC Awards are the culmination of a four-week celebration of Manhattan's cabarets and nightclubs and their abundance of live talent. The MAC Awards are presented annually to honor achievements in cabaret, comedy and jazz. The Awards encompass more than two dozen categories, including vocalists and vocal groups, piano bar and jazz performers, comedy and musical performers, writers of songs and special material, directors, musical directors and technical directors, recordings, and more. In addition, through special awards, MAC salutes outstanding contributions to the field of live entertainment.
