opens its fall season with the debut of a spectacular new show featuring
two of the greatest performers in American popular music, Darlene
Love and Freda Payne, together for the first time in "LOVE AND PAYNE."
Their engagement runs from September 17th through October 5th.
"LOVE AND PAYNE" at FEINSTEIN'S
AT THE REGENCY will have the following special schedule and price
structure: Thursday, September 12th through Saturday, September 14th
at 8:30 pm are special preview performances with no cover; September
17th through October 5th: performances Tuesday through Saturday at
8:30 pm and Friday & Saturday at 11:00 pm have a $45 cover and no
minimum. Jackets are suggested, but not required.
"LOVE AND PAYNE" is a
brand new show about relationships with songs from the worlds of R&B,
standards, gospel and jazz. The show is produced by Michael Feinstein
and Allen J. Sviridoff.
Darlene Love has been
hailed as one of the greatest singers in popular music. From her first
number one recording, "He's A Rebel," through her string of label
hits with legendary producer Phil Spector, including "Da Doo Ron Ron,"
"He's Sure the Boy I'm Gonna Marry" and "Christmas Baby, Please Come
Home," to the countless songs she sang back up on for artists like
Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick, Cher and Aretha Franklin,
she is still blazing a trail of success in the music industry. She
has also proven herself a talented actress on stage and screen, starring
as Danny Glover's wife in the Lethal Weapon films and lighting up
Broadway in musicals like "Grease" and the Tony Award nominated "Leader
of the Pack."
Freda Payne is a celebrated
R&B and jazz singer known for the classic hits "Band of Gold," "Deeper
and Deeper" and "Bring the Boys Home." In the 1960's she toured with
the Quincy Jones and Bob Crosby bands and recorded her debut solo
album for the legendary Impulse! Records. In recent years, she has
been seen on stage in theatrical productions such as "Ain't Misbehavin',"
"Sophisticated Ladies," "Blues in the Night," "Jelly's Last Jam" and
the play "A Change is Gonna Come."
