
The
Kitchenettes Kick-Off New Musical Revue at Club Pena PachaMama in
North Beach
The
Kitchenettes, the delectable vocal duo of Lua Hadar and Linda Kosut,
joined on piano and in song by cabaret artist Barry Lloyd, bring their
latest musical revue "Come and Get It! ... Songs of Food, Love, and
Lust" to CLUB PENA PACHAMAMA (1630 Powell Street, North Beach, CA
- 415-646-0018 - http://www.penapachamama.com/).
The kick-off event is Thursday, November 21st from 7:00 until 10:00
pm. Thereafter, starting December 5, "Come and Get It" will be presented
the FIRST THURSDAY of every month. There is a $5 cover charge and
no minimum. Reservations are recommended.
"Come and Get It!" serves
up delicious duets, tasty trios and succulent solos in a wide
range of styles from jazz, pop and Broadway, accompanied by a generous
side dish of international tunes. According to Kitchenette Lua Hadar,
"The show will never be the same twice. We will always add new songs
and, from time to time, feature special surprise guests, including
PachaMama's talented owners, the high-energy South American band,
Sukay."
Club Pena PachaMama, called
" ... the friendliest, most inviting nightspot in the city," offers
an exciting menu, reasonably priced, and as delicious as the Kitchenettes'
music.
Lua Hadar & Linda Kosut
are the originators of the cabaret diva group, The Kitchenettes, and
creators of the cabaret show "DINE: Where Food and Lust Burst into
Song", which they performed at San Francisco's prestigious THE PLUSH

to enthusiastic audiences. They have also presented their show "IT'S
MY PARTY, a cabaret souffle in the key of Now!" at Marin's LARKSPUR
CAFE & THEATER (500 Magnolia Avenue, Marin, CA - 415-924-6107). The
Kitchenettes just performed "IT'S MY PARTY" at THE WHITE BARN THEATRE
(2727 Sulphur Springs Avenue, St. Helena, CA - 707- 963-7002) on October
18th & 19th, and will be seen in "DINE" at COPIA, The American Institute
for Food, Wine & The Arts in Napa, CA, on April 21, 2003.
Lua & Linda have also
appeared in solo performances in venues such as Jillian's at the Metreon,
JOHNNY FOLEYS IRISH HOUSE & CELLAR (243 O'Farrell Street, San Francisco,
CA - 415-954-0777), MARTUNI'S (4 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA
- 415-241-0205) and the former Piaf's, among many others. They were
co-hosts of Martuni's "Song of the Month Club" and were participants
in the first West Coast Cabaret Conference. The Kitchenettes produce
and host a monthly salon for cabaret performers Æ ThickTuesdays -
at San Francisco's THICK HOUSE THEATER (1695 18th Street, San Francisco,
CA - 415-401-8081).
Lua Hadar has become a
presence on the San Francisco cabaret scene since her move here from
her native New York City over 10 years ago. Her solo cabaret show,
"My Foolish Heart", introduced audiences to the joyousness and ease
with which this singer-actress can deliver a wide range of musical
styles. Since then, the lush-voiced comedienne has appeared at all
of San Francisco's major cabaret venues. Known for her international
cabaret repertoire and pure, rich voice, Lua appeared for many weeks
at Union Street's Cafe de Paris, following a featured concert at the
cabaret festival in Breno, Italy. Lua performed with Barry Lloyd in
an all-French cabaret program for the opening of the Palace of the
Legion of Honor's exhibit, "Toulouse Lautrec & The Spirit of Montmartre:
Cabaret, Humor and the Avant-Garde, 1875-1905."
Linda Kosut moved to the
San Francisco Bay Area over 15 years ago from her native New York
City where she began her cabaret career at the former Jan Wallman's
in the Village and in several of New York's cabaret rooms. A smoky
contralto, Linda is a stylish, moving and entertaining cabaret artist.
Her show "Mister Kicks," showed audiences the range of musical styles
and emotions she delivers in her performance. She is a passionate
singer best known for her interpretive skill with lyrics and the "story"
song. Linda has performed in all of San Francisco's major cabaret
venues. She is currently producing her first CD to be released this
winter. She is a 1990 Fellow of the Cabaret Symposium of the Eugene
O'Neill Theater Center.
Barry Lloyd, Musical Director,
is a veteran cabaret artist. He has been a leading musical figure
in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 25 years as accompanist
to such cabaret stars as Ruth Hastings, Sharon McNight, Nancy LaMott,
Michael Greer, Raquel Bitton, Charles Pierce, and many others. He
was also private accompanist to Miss Mary Martin during her residence
in San Francisco. Mr. Lloyd is a graduate of both the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music and the American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.).
Known primarily as a pianist/ accompanist, Mr. Lloyd is also an accomplished
actor, singer, arranger and composer. An avid aficionado of Cole Porter's
music, Barry recently performed his show, "A Swell Party" at San Francisco's
THE PLUSH ROOM at the York Hotel (940 Sutter Street, San Francisco,
CA - 415-885-2800 - http://www.plushroom.com/),
and continues his presentation of Cole Porter's music, along with
his trio, in "Let's Fly Away: A Romp Around the World on the Wings
of Cole Porter."
