American Tenor Paul Austin Kelly Sings An Evening of Jazz Classics

Show at the Lewes Jazz Club to benefit the Lewes Library Fund on November 21, 2002.

American Tenor Paul Austin Kelly will take time out from his opera schedule to sing a special Evening of Jazz Classics at the LEWES JAZZ CLUB (139 High Street, Lewes, East Sussex - http://www.lewesjazzclub.org.uk) in support of the Lewes Library Fund on Thursday, November 21st at 8:15 pm. Accompanying Mr. Kelly are distinguished British jazz musicians Godfrey Sheppard on double bass and Malcolm Mortimore on drums. Long-time friend and fellow New Yorker Al Clogston joins Mr. Kelly on piano. Tickets are available at the door.

The evening's programme will feature the music of jazz greats Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, Rogers and Hart, Billy Strayhorn and Tom Waits among others. Paul Austin Kelly demonstrated his skills as a jazz vocalist this past May bank holiday at the Pavilion Theatre in Brighton when he sang a selection of jazz favorites to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Brighton Dome. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

Paul Austin Kelly and his family have put down roots in their adopted hometown of Lewes ever since making his debut at the nearby Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 1995. Mr. Kelly is always eager to contribute to the local community and sees the local library as a vital resource, particularly for the many musicians who live in the area. The Lewes Library Fund committee seeks to raise money for the building of the new public library in Lewes and its subsequent support.

Paul Austin Kelly's recent operatic engagements have included his Welsh National Opera debut in Mozart's Cos̉ fan tutte and his acclaimed return to Glimmerglass Opera in the title role of Haydn's Orlando Paladino. An artist of diverse talents, Mr. Kelly is also an accomplished singer/songwriter of music for children. His latest CD release "Hello Michael Rosen" has received critical acclaim and features the original music of Paul Austin Kelly and the poetry of acclaimed British author Michael Rosen.
