O'Connor & Vogel: GUY & DOLL Extended at MAMA's

GUY & DOLL, a cabaret-theater revue starring musical comedy duo Debra Vogel and Brian Tom O'Connor, makes a triumphant return to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC, 212-757-0788, http://www.donttellmama.com/) for six performances during September and October. The show ran for 6 sold-out weeks at Don't Tell Mama this past year. Dates and times for the extended run are as follows: Sunday, September 15th, 4:30 pm; Sunday, September 22nd, 6:30 pm; Thursday, October 10th, 7:00 pm; Monday, October 14th, 7:30 pm; Monday, October 21st, 7:00 pm; Saturday; October 26th, 6:30 pm. There is a $10 cover, 2-drink minimum.

The show starts with a seduction, and from there the whole saga of the war between the sexes is spun through song. From sex to fear to marriage, through conflict, jealousy, regret, and on to joyful resignation, O'Connor & Vogel mine the treasure trove of musical theatre for humor and poignancy. They will be joined on stage for their return engagement by musical director/arranger/pianist Darryl Curry. The director is Elfin Frederick.

Each song is staged as a scene between two characters. The material is not culled from the love ballads of the romantic leads, but from the character duets, usually sung by the comic couple. For instance, the show includes "I'll Never Be Jealous Again," which was sung by Eddie Foy Jr. and Reta Shaw in THE PAJAMA GAME, and "Take A Job" from DO RE MI, which starred Phil Silvers and Nancy Walker in the original Broadway cast.
