Eastern
Standard Time, the two-time MAC Award nominee for Outstanding Vocal
Group from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, will perform
at New York's renowned French Bistro, CHEZ SUZETTE (675B Ninth Avenue,
NYC - 212-974-9002 - http://www.chezsuzettenyc.com/)
on Monday, September 23rd. The trio will offer two sets beginning
at 8:30 and 10:15 pm. There is no cover charge and a modest $10 food/drink
minimum.
Eastern Standard Time's
first set will consist of selections from their long-running show,
saluting the standards from the golden age of the American Songbook
Æ the 30s and 40s. The second set offers the audience a sneak preview
of their upcoming show, focusing on standards coming from Broadway,
as well as music from more contemporary voices, including Jason Robert
Brown and William Finn and Michael Holland.
Formed by Christopher
Howatt and Dana Merritt, Eastern Standard Time harkens back to a time
when melodies were hum-able and lyrics were memorable, composed by
such artists as the Gershwins, Hoagy Carmichael and Richard Rodgers.
Mr. Howatt serves as musical director, pianist and singer in the group.
Joined by Ms. Merritt and soprano Beth Covell, they form the trio
that performs those wonderful songs in "fabulous three-part harmony."
Since their successful debut at THE TRIAD (158 West 72nd Street, NYC
- 212-362-2590) in January 1997, the trio has performed at various
prestigious venues and affairs throughout the metropolitan area, including
Judy's Chelsea, The Garrick Gaieties, Manhattan School of Music, and
New York's own Dutch Treat Club, home to such luminaries as Walter
Cronkite, Art Buchwald.
The three entertainers
were also tapped to open the 15th season of cabaret at the renowned
venue THE CABARET at Odette's (South River Road, New Hope, PA - 215-862-3000
- http://www.odettes.com/)
in February 2002, and will return with their holiday show in December.
Eastern Standard Time was selected to appear at the Mabel Mercer Foundation's
Tenth Anniversary Cabaret Convention at Town Hall, sharing the stage
with such cabaret luminaries as Cybill Shepherd and Michael Feinstein,
and was nominated in the Outstanding Vocal Group category for the
2000 and 2001 MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Award.
