"DUSTY IN MY DREAMS" UPSTAIRS AT ROSE'S TURN

"Dusty in My Dreams," a small pearl of a play by poet/playwright S.J. Watson, directed by Amy Coleman of "Flamin' Amy Blues Band" and "The Last Session" fame; and performed by Susan Kostalow and Jeff Sproul, with David Nehls on piano will be presented at UPSTAIRS AT ROSE'S TURN (55 Grove Street, NYC - 212-366-5438) on Sundays, November 17th & 24th at 3:00 pm. There is a $10.00, plus 2 drink minimum.

"Dusty in My Dreams" is the story of a young man growing up miserably in New Jersey, who retreats into the music of the early sixties and discovers Dusty Springfield. He begins an intimate relationship with her - in his dreams - and his life is irrevocably altered.

The play is both outrageously funny and touchingly poignant ; and although a clear homage to the dazzling artist that was Dusty Springfield, it is not her biography that concerns author Watson. Rather, it is the power of her art as conveyed through her work. Among its many themes, the play explores the relationship that exists between icons and the devotee. And finally, it is a tribute to the healing power of the spirit of love and self acceptance as revealed through awareness.

Events from the artist's life have been fictionalized as though by a fan who has read interviews, articles, and tabloid gossip about the legendary singer who has been called one of the greatest interpreters of rhythm and blues since Billie Holiday. Although not a musical, "Dusty in My Dreams" includes several songs the artist recorded, including a few not usually associated with Dusty. As the young man listens to songs that relate to his personal emotional state, the dreams are triggered and his journey progresses.
