"My Doris Day" includes
songs from 1940 to 1970 and the journey that Doris took from her first
gig at a Chinese restaurant in Cincinnati to becoming the number one
female vocalist of the last century. The Music is reminiscent of the
original recordings, but updated in astonishing vocal arrangements
and musical accompaniment. Fall in love again with the voice that
whispers in your ear as you experience her music and words presented
by five performers who portray her devoted fans. A sentimental journey
through the recording career of Doris Day.
The cast of five top singers
and actors include Rob Barnes, Quanda Johnson, Jennifer L. Neuland,
Bjorn Olsson and Michael Ursua. My Doris Day is directed by Jerry
Goehring and written by Patty Carver and Leo P. Carusone, with musical
arrangements and direction by Leo P. Carusone, and additional arrangements
by Michael Ursua. Produced by Pierre Patrick, Associate Producers
are Howard Green, Bob Mellor, Stephen Munns and William Surette.
America's living legend,
Doris Day, graciously retired from the industry more than twenty years
ago to focus on animal issues. This year, A&E asked its audience to
vote for its most popular personalities and Doris Day was voted the
number one female entertainer.
Doris is emerging in a
new century as still one of the most important vocal artists. She
is the number one female recording artist still today with seventy-five
charted hits, two albums at number one for a total of twenty-eight
weeks, twenty top ten hits and Doris also remains the number female
box office star of all time!
Doris's last appearance
in New York was at "The Little Club" in 1947. This year, five of Broadway's
best will be presenting Doris's music in an intimate and personal
setting for a limited engagement. Doris has given her blessing to
the creators of this celebration since the beginning. The show was
presented first in London during the winter of 1996, and then had
its U.S. premiere in Boston in the autumn of 1996, which was followed
by the inaugural production of Garry Marshall's new theatre in Los
Angeles in 1998.
