CHICAGO'S JOAN CURTO MAKES HER NEW YORK DEBUT


Chicago based singer and actress Joan Curto will be making her New York debut, with her critically acclaimed cabaret show "Unexpressed?" at JUDY'S CHELSEA (169 Eighth Avenue, NYC - 212-929-5410 - http://www.judyschelsea.com/) April 11th, 12th & 14th at 8:30 pm. Musical Direction is by Dan Stetzel, also from Chicago. Ron Cohn directs the show.

Chicago audiences and critics have been unanimous in praising Joan's current show. It was named one of the top 10 cabaret shows in Chicago for 2001. The show is an eclectic collection of songs featuring great composers from both the American Songbook and contemporary music. Songs featured range from the 1937 song "I Double Dare You," to Amanda McBroom's touching "Putting Things Away." Other highlights include songs by Julie Gold, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Susan Werner, Carol Hall and the beautiful title song "Unexpressed" by John Bucchino.

Joan is quickly establishing herself as a top cabaret performer in Chicago. She performs regularly at the town's premiere room, DAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830 - http://www.davenportspianobar.com/). Joan has performed in a special ASCAP concert in conjunction with the Chicago Humanities Festival for the last two years. In addition Joan was invited to perform in the First Ever Chicago Cabaret Convention in March. Joan attended the Eugene O'Neill Cabaret Symposium in 1999.

Chicago audiences have also enjoyed Joan in many theater performances over the years. She has appeared in the lead roles of "South Pacific," "They're Playing Our Song," "Baby," "Follies," "Jerry's Girls" and has been a part of many benefit concerts for the Chicago AIDS charity, Season of Concern.

Although a long time resident of Chicago, Joan was born in Philadelphia, and spent her teen years in Stamford, Connecticut.
