Carroll Suddenly Replaced at BEMELMANS BAR

According
to an item in today's (April 4, 2002) N.Y. POST, New York City cabaret
and piano bar icon Barbara Carroll was apparently suddenly dismissed
from her long-time 9:30 pm gig at the classic Steinway in BEMELMAN'S
BAR at the CARLYLE HOTEL (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600
- http://www.thecarlyle.com/cal.cfm).
Reportedly, when told that her time slot was being switched to the
5:30 - 8:30 pm shift, Ms. Carroll refused. She had just begun a four-month
run at the famed NYC nightspot on March 5th, to end on June 28th.
A longtime favorite on
the NYC night scene, Ms. Carroll was also featured year after year
at the NYC Cabaret Convention. She had been featured performer at
the Bemelmans for over 25 years!
In place of Ms. Carroll,
the Loston Harris Trio, featuring jazz pianist-singer Loston Harris
began its turn at starting April 2nd. Mr. Harris, who reopened the
newly restored bar earlier this year. Harris has performed as a member
of The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Harris
will be appearing Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 pm - 12:30
am. There is a cover charge of $15 at tables, $10 at the bar.
