"Bumping Umbrellas" is a surreal exploration of seduction and temptation. This production uses the movement and rhythm of tango to inform the text. Through this dance, the characters indulge in their desires and at the same time control them.

A synopsis of the show reads like an opera: One morning, Evie (a restless mother, disappointed and unsatisfied with her marriage) wanders into a junk shop, after a fight with her husband. Nadja (a flamboyant French shopkeeper, capable of great love and great rage), knows that like the cast away belongings she sells, Evie must be renewed. She offers Evie a glimpse of a world where passion and freedom rule. Evie confides that she wants both passion and marriage. Nadja points out that you can't have both with the same man. Enter Lou Siffer, Nadja's cohort. Lou (a devilish charmer, with a talent for seduction) manipulates Evie's vulnerabilities and her attraction to him. He tempts Evie with everything her marriage lacks until she can no longer pretend that being a loyal wife and a model mother is enough to fulfill her. Evie surrenders to the excitement and passion that have been missing from her marriage and her body betrays her mind. Disgusted with what she has done, but unable to return to her old life, Evie must reconcile her perception of sin with her knowledge of pleasure.
