BROADWAY BY THE YEAR SERIES INCLUDES STARS OF CABARET & BROADWAY

Next show is Monday, May 13th at THE TOWN HALL features shows of 1951

Scott Siegel, Producer, Writer & Host of "Broadway by the Year" has announced the third show (of four) in his acclaimed and popular series at THE TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC - http://www.the-townhall-nyc.org/). "The Broadway Musicals of 1951" will take place on Monday, May 13th at 8:00 pm. Songs from nine different shows that opened on Broadway in 1951 will be performed under the direction of Thommie Walsh and backed by the musicianship of Ross Patterson and the Ross Patterson "Little Big Band." Among the shows represented will be "The King and I," "Top Banana," "Flahooley," "Paint Your Wagon," "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," etc. "The Broadway Musicals of 1951" will star Rebecca Eichenberger, Alison Fraser, Davis Gaines, Leslie Kritzer, and Chip Zien. Siegel notes that he has seen three of these singers perform in cabaret.

But it's Siegel's fourth show, "The Broadway Musicals of 1964," to be presented at THE TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC - http://www.the-townhall-nyc.org/) on June 10th that overflows with cabaret performers. In that show he will feature Liz Callaway, Tom Andersen, Norm Lewis, Sharon McNight, Steven Brinberg, Richard Skipper, with still others to be named later. Siegel is proud to say that he has, at one time or another, seen every single one of the folks who are cast (so far) in the 1964 show on a cabaret stage.

Tickets, Siegel noted, are limited. The price of tickets is $30. The best (and least expensive) way to get those seats, he suggests, it to go to the town hall box office at 123 west 43rd street between noon and 6 pm any day but Sunday to purchase tickets directly. Otherwise, call TicketMaster at 307-4100.

Here's some good news for the cabaret community: This year's first "Broadway by the Year" show at Town Hall, "The Broadway Musicals of 1933," has just been released on CD by Bayview Records. The show, which featured cabaret performer Mark Coffin, has, as of Friday, May 10th, shot to NUMBER ONE on the http://www.Footlight.com/ best-seller list! Mr. Coffin was given a personal rave by Stephen Holden of the NY Times for his performance in that show, which has been beautifully preserved on the new CD. Also starring in that show (and on the CD) are theater performers who have also performed in cabaret: Mary Testa, Anne Runolfsson, and George Dvorsky. Siegel says," Only Mary Bond Davis did not, to my knowledge, perform in a cabaret act (and I might have just missed that in her bio)."

So, congratulations to the cabaret community and at least four of its members for making it to number one on the only theater/cabaret CD best-seller list of its kind.
