"ANDREWS
SISTERS' HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN" MOVES TO SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS IN
JULY!

Artfull
Circle Theatre's latest musical comedy production, "The Andrews Sisters'
Hollywood Canteen," featuring songs of the big band swing era and
World War II, is now playing at THE DUPLEX (61 Christopher Street,
NYC - 212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/).
Performances in July are on Saturdays, the 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th,
and Sundays, the 7th, 21st & 28th - all shows at 8:00 pm. There is
a $15 cover charge, 2-drink minimum.
Inspired by the morale
boosting movies and radio broadcasts of the wartime era, this 90-minute
show features 30 hit numbers (including many Andrews Sisters' standards)
from the period, with a strong emphasis on three, four, and even six-part
harmony vocals.
"The Andrews Sisters' Hollywood
Canteen" stars seasoned singer-performers Trauma Flintstone as Patty
Andrews, Brant Kaiwi as Maxine Andrews, and Mark Sargent as Laverne
Andrews. (Trauma, Brant and Mark also appeared as the famous singing
sisters in Artfull Circle Theatre's 2001 production of "Christmas
with the Crawfords" at the Chelsea Playhouse.) Rounding out the cast
are Toni Smith as Helen Tremaine, the ingenue, Joe Levesque as Biff
Baxter the sailor boy, and Curtis Conlin as Frankie Davero the crooner.
The audience gets in the act too as they become the sailors, soldiers
and marines who come to the canteen for a little fun, music ... and
donuts!
Artfull Circle Theatre,
an award winning company founded in 1992, has produced original musical
comedy theatre in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and New York
City. The emphasis has been on drag performance in a theatrical setting,
and inspiration for most of ACT's work has come from the "Golden Age"
of Hollywood movies. Artfull Circle Theatre's most well known production
is the holiday show "Christmas with Crawfords," which debuted in 1992
in San Francisco and ran there for the following seven years. There
have been productions in Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland, Oregon
as well. In 2000, Artfull Circle Theatre moved the show to New York
(earning a Drama Desk nomination) and a 2001 revival met with both
critical and box office success. Plans are in the works for both a
New York revival and new productions across America this year.
