THE ROCK ALBERS SHOW: AN EVENING OF COMEDY AND SONGS" RETURNS TO DON'T TELL MAMA

Eccentric comedian Rock Albers is giving three encore performances of "The Rock Albers Show: An Evening of Comedy and Songs" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th St., NYC Æ 212-757-0788 - http: /www.dontellmama.com/) on February 16th and 23rd and March 2nd, all Saturdays, at 5:30 pm. There is no cover for the show, and there is a 2-drink minimum.

Albers debuted his show in the fall of 2000 to sellout crowds and enthusiastic reviews, and this will mark his fifth return engagement. Dressed in a Brooks Brothers suit and wearing rabbit ears and bunny tail, Albers opens his act singing the "Theme from the Bugs Bunny" show through a megaphone accompanied by a huge boom box. During his show he also sings parody songs about American icons such as Martha Stewart, Donald Trump and Janet Reno. Albers speaks out on issues that no other comedian dares to address. Who else but Rock Albers would take to a New York stage on the 50th Anniversary of I Love Lucy to declare that "I Love Lucy makes absolutely no sense."

For example, he says, "In Episode 4 when Lucy goes on a diet, she fights with the Mertz's dog Butch over a piece of steak," Albers says. "But from then on, we never or see or hear of Butch again."

"But later, in Episode 166, when Little Ricky gets a dog, the Mertzes say he can't keep him, because they say no pets are allowed in their apartment building. Well, what about Butch!" Albers muses. In fact, he declares that the entire series is riddled with preposterous contradictions.

Albers rants about a variety of subjects that other standup comics don't talk about such as state birds, national flags, English chocolate and "The Berenstain Bears."

The first thing people always ask Albers is why the rabbit ears. "When people see me in bunny ears, it tells them that this guy is outrageous and invites them to enter my bizarre world," he says. "It gets them laughing immediately. By making fun of myself, it allows me to say things about other people, places and things that might otherwise come off as harsh or mean."

Albers is performing in all of the major New York comedy clubs including Carolines, Standup New York, Gotham, Comic Strip, Comedy Cellar and Boston Comedy. He was recently a guest on National Public Radio's "The Next Big Thing" and Manhattan Neighbor Network's "Jamie de Roy & Friends," and he has also been seen on New York 1 News as well as MTV.

The show's musical director is Dick Gallagher, who composed the music for the hit Off-Broadway show, "When Pigs Fly," which played in New York for two years. As a musical director, Gallagher has worked with singers including Patti Lupone and has received seven Manhattan Association of Cabaret Awards for musical direction.

The show is directed by award winning director and writer Stephen Rosenfield who has directed at The Roundabout Theatre, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Actor's Studio and is the Director of the American Comedy Institute and the Standup Comedy Experience.
