KAREN AKERS RETURNS TO THE ALGONQUIN WITH "WHEN LOVE SPEAKS TO YOU"

KAREN AKERS RETURNS TO THE ALGONQUIN WITH "WHEN LOVE SPEAKS TO YOU"

Will perform April 30th through May 25th

Karen Akers, one of the most successful international cabaret singers, will headline an exclusive four-week engagement in THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/), April 30th through May 25th with her new show "When Love Speaks To You." Shows are at 9:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; and at 9:00 and 11:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Dinner shows are Thursday through Saturday at 9:00 pm. There is a $50.00 cover charge plus a $15.00 food/drink minimum.

The show is a collection of love songs that speak from Karen's musical heart. The evening will include two selections from The Fantasticks in a loving tribute to this recently closed New York landmark musical. In honor of the Richard Rodgers Centenary, Karen will include a selection by Rodgers and Hart. Songs from the theatre include gems from the musical treasure chests of Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, Cy Coleman and Marvin Hamlisch. She will, of course, satisfy her audience with songs in French by Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf. Musical direction and arrangements are by Don Rebic.

Karen Akers has had a long and varied career. From Broadway ("Nine" and "Grand Hotel") to Carnegie Hall and The Hollywood Bowl, her multi-faceted accomplishments include films (Woody Allen's "The Purple Rose of Cairo" and Mike Nichols's "Heartburn"), seven solo recordings (the most recent being "Feels Like Home"), and two of her own PBS specials. Karen is the recipient of the 2002 Board of Directors Award from MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs - http://www.macnyc.com/) in recognition of her immense contribution to the genre of cabaret.
