Sydney Cabaret Convention 2001 Set For June 26 - June 30, 2001

Australia's premier cabaret convention will showcase the nation's most exciting cabaret talent from 26th to the 30th in the Sydney Town Hall.

The Sydney Cabaret Convention is an annual event and provides a unique forum for talented, yet unestablished cabaret artists to perform to an audience of industry professionals, the general public and alongside Australia's greatest cabaret stars. Each participant in the showcase sessions is allowed 7 minutes to perform 2 songs with a little bit of "glue," the patter that links the songs together.

The Awards

The City of Sydney Award
The recipient of this award will receive a return ticket to New York, accommodation and an invitation to perform at the 2001 New York Cabaret Convention in October.

The New York Award
The recipient will receive a return ticket to New York and a guest pass to the 2001 New York Cabaret Convention.

The Corporate Gold Award
The award of $500 will go to the act judged most suited to corporate events.

Show Calendar

Opening night will be Tuesday, June 26th at 7:30 pm in The Cabaret Room, Lower Town Hall, with special guest artists Leonie Page, Derek Metzger, Paul Capsis and the first of the 40 selected participants.

The Showcase of Performances will be held from Wednesday, the 27th to Friday, the 29th at 7:30 pm, also in The Cabaret Room, hosted by Geraldine Turner and topped each night with a surprise guest.

The Masterclass will be on Saturday, June 30th, at 1:00 pm, in The Cabaret Room, Lower Town Hall. Master teacher Kerrie Biddell brings her considerable skills to the task of taking talented young singers through their paces.

The Gala Cabaret will be on Saturday, the 30th of June. Doors open at 6:30 pm for the 7:30 pm show, featuring finalists from the Showcase sessions and performances by Tim Draxl, Renee Geyer, Natalie Mendoza, Mary Schneider and Geraldine Turner. Winners of the 2000 Cabaret Convention, Annie Frances, Craig Schneider and the comedy/vocal duo WIT will also perform.

All awards will be announced during the evening.
