ARCI'S PLACE PRESENTS MARILYN SOKOL IN "ME and MY FANNY"

A TRIBUTE TO FANNY BRICE NOVEMBER 27- DECEMBER 8

Funny lady MARILYN SOKOL returns by popular demand to ARCI'S PLACE (450 Park Avenue South, NYC - 212-532-4370 - http://www.arcisplace.com/) on November 27th for a limited two-week engagement. "Me and My Fanny" will play Tuesday through Thursday at 9:00 pm and Friday and Saturday at 8:30 and 11:00 pm. Tickets to the show are $30 with a $15 food/drink minimum.

Ms. Sokol's "Me and My Fanny" celebrates the life and career of Fanny Brice. With it, she brings to fruition years of Tin Pan Alley "excavation," as she interprets seldom-sung Brice Æ musical gems from burlesque and vaudeville to The Ziegfield Follies and film. Some rarely heard selections include: "Allay Up," "Quainty Dainty Me," "I'm an Indian," "I'm Bad," and others. "Rose of Washington Square," "Cookin' Breakfast For The One I Love" and "Second Hand Rose" are among the familiar favorites. Marilyn intertwines her own personal anecdotes and observations with little-known "Brice-abilia." MAC AwardÆwinner Ian Herman serves as Musical Director. "Me and My Fanny" is a jubilant celebration, rather than an imitation. The "Me" part means Sokol's own mischief and mayhem are always a part of the romp!

Marilyn Sokol is an actress, singer, comedienne and writer who has performed in virtually every theatrical medium from stage, television and film, to radio, cabaret and street performing. She recently returned from East Hampton's John Drew Theatre where she received smashing notices for her performance in "Scenery," a new 2-character play co-starring Clive Revill. Earlier this year she played Fanny Brice's mother in "Funny Girl" at Houston's Theatre under the Stars. She also starred in Moss Hart's "Light Up The Sky," at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre.

Marilyn made her theatrical debut as the Belly Dancer in the first national company of "Man of La Mancha" with Jose Ferrer and Richard Kiley. She won an Obie for her portrayal of Lucy Lockit in "The Beggars Opera," an Emmy for "Sneak Peak" (in Washington, DC) and a Bistro Award for her cabaret act. Her film credits include: "Man on the Moon," "The Basketball Diaries," "Family Business," "Foul Play," "Can't Stop The Music," and "The Goodbye Girl." On television she's chatted with Charlie Rose, Dave, Johnny, Merv and Jackie Mason. She's guest-starred on "Sex and the City," as Kim Catrall's sex therapist, on "Barney Miller" as a sex surrogate, on "All My Children" as an agent, and on "Law and Order" as a theatre party booker.

On Broadway Ms. Sokol starred in "Grease" (the recent revival), Herb Gardner's "Conversations With My Father," Cy Coleman's "Welcome To The Club," and A.E. Hotchner and Eugene O'Neill's "The Great God" and Moliere's "Don Juan," both with the Phoenix Rep. She has shared the boards with Ann Miller, Gloria Swanson, Jerry Orbach, Van Johnson, Lou Jacobi, Soupy Sales, Captain Kangaroo and Big Bird. Marilyn's Off-Broadway credits include the role of Mistress Quickly in the New York Shakespeare Festival's production of "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "The Rise of David Levinsky," and "Guilt Without Sex," her own one-woman show. In regional theatre she has starred in "The Diary of Anne Frank," "Candide," "The Sisters Rosensweig," "Gypsy," " Fiddler on the Roof," "Lovers and Other Strangers" and "The Wizard of Oz."

She received brilliant notices for her tripleÆrole performance in "Schlemiel The First," a Klezmer musical (originating at Harvard's ART, later presented at Lincoln Center's "Serious Fun" series). She has sung the role of Rosalinda in "Die Fledermaus," concertized with Michael Tilson-Thomas and the Buffalo Philharmonic and guested at Avery Fisher, Town and Carnegie Halls. Marilyn has had her own radio show on WBAI. She has sold Sanka, Peppermint Patties, Tender Vittles, Nathan's and Laughing Cow. In the Muppet's special "Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas," she performed the role of Ma Otter. Her many character voices may be heard daily on "Sesame Street."

She has performed the many incarnations of her cabaret act at The Bottom Line, The Village Gate, Caroline's Comedy Club, Michael's Pub, The Ballroom and The Russian Tea Room, as well as in major rooms throughout the land. Marilyn received a BA from NYU with a double major in Spanish literature and Theatre Arts. She is a member of The Actor's Studio. She's taught comedy and song interpretation at several institutions of higher learning: Princeton, Sarah Lawrence College, NYU (CAP 21), The Actor's Studio MFA program, The New School and at Montana State University at Bozeman. Some of Marilyn's Dial-A-Jokes are enshrined in the Smithsonian.
