Joanna Parson and her Merry Band Present Songs & Comedy in DON'T TELL MAMA

June 10, 2001 - New York, NY: Singer/Songwriter/Comedian Joanna Parson and her Merry Band will be performing original songs and comedy at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/) on Tuesdays, June 12th, 19th and 26th - all shows at 9:00 pm. Ms. Parson will be accompanied by Van Zeiler on guitar, Sam McPherson on bass, Mary Rodriguez on percussion, and additional vocals from Liana Reda. Joanna has received production and directing support from fellow cabaret performer James Beaman ("Black Market Marlene").

The one-hour performance is a funny and hip collection of songs and comic monologues, all written by Parson. Her 1999-2000 act at Don't Tell Mama, "What Good Girls Get," performed to capacity crowds, garnered rave reviews including a New York Post Cabaret Pick, and extended its original four week run to eight weeks. Returning to New York after touring with the National Tour of "Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story," Parson will feature seven new songs with an expanded band, as well as comedy originally performed at the "Poole Party," with the "Jack Donahue and Friends" show in February, and when she opened for Jerry Seinfeld at Gotham Comedy Club's "Break-Up Girl Live."

Parson's folk-guitar-based act also brings characters familiar to her growing fan base back to the stage, with songs like "Jewel's Got My Gig," about the sisterhood and jealousy that can go hand in hand in the music world, and "Johnny," sung to an ex-boy friend from a position exactly three feet and one restraining order away from his bedroom window.
