"SPRING COLLECTION" LORNA DALLAS
AT ARCI'S PLACE APRIL 17 - 28

LORNA DALLAS, who starred as Magnolia in the record breaking London revival of "Show Boat," starring Dame Cleo Laine, and remained there to star in major musicals such as "The King and I," "Hello Dolly," and "Side by Side by Sondheim" will bring her new show "SPRING COLLECTION" to ARCI'S PLACE (450 Park Avenue South, NYC - 212-532-4370 - http://www.arcisplace.com/) this April. She made her New York cabaret debut last spring at The FireBird Cafe. "SPRING COLLECTION" will officially open on Tuesday, April 17 at 9:00 PM at Arci's Place, 450 Park Avenue South (at 30th Street.)

"SPRING COLLECTION" will feature a veritable potpourri of popular standards by such greats as Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Cy Coleman, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer, Bart Howard, Lerner and Lane, Rodgers and Hammerstein, James van Heusen, John Dankworth, and Leonard Bernstein. All of the songs in the program will concern themselves with the joys or thought of Spring.

In addition to her musical theater performances (other shows include "Kismet," "Closer Than Ever" and "Cole") Lorna went on to have one of the most ambitious and successful BBC series, entitled "Lorna Dallas ... My Musical World." She has also been a guest artist in all the major concert halls from London to Australia and starred in countless concerts and television specials such as "The Magic of Rodgers & Hammerstein," "Cole Porter Centennial Gala," and "Night of 100 Stars." In November 1999, Lorna starred with Cleo Laine in the season's most highly anticipated concert, "Farewell 20th Century," at London's ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL. Also in the late '90s she recorded four PBS Specials: a Tribute to Comden & Green (with Comden & Green); the George Gershwin Centenary from the Royal Albert Hall; the Ira Gershwin Special from the London Palladium; and her own show for the Brownville Concert Series. In New York she has performed in the famed Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel; appeared at the Town Hall Royal Gala with Cleo Laine; and is a frequent guest at the famed Lyrics & Lyricists Series at the 92nd Street Y. She was also a special guest in a series of concerts throughout the United States in '98-'99 with conductor/arranger Skitch Henderson and the Honolulu, Florida, New Haven, Savannah, Jacksonville and Dallas Symphony Orchestras. In November 1998, Lorna made her Carnegie Hall debut with Skitch and the New York Pops.

Her solo album "The Girl I Knew" ... the music of Novello and Kern, was released in 1998. It was the critics' choice as "CD of the Year." Michael Billington, the renowned London reviewer writing for BBC Music Magazine said "In Lorna Dallas, Kern and Novello have found the perfect interpreter!" and here in the States, InTheater named it as one of the Top 10 CD Picks of the Year. Shortly after the release of the CD she debuted her new show, "Lorna Dallas Celebrates the Music of Jerome Kern and Ivor Novello" at the grand reopening of the Jermyn Street Theatre in London. The sold-out engagement garnered enthusiastic praise from all the critics. Sheridan Morley of the International Herald Tribune wrote "Catch Dallas while you can!" and Clive Davis of The London Times wrote "Swinging, vamping, and having a ball ... Lorna achieves the rare feat of rescuing Ivor Novello from the back pages of the musical theatre scrapbooks!" Tim Lusher in The Evening Standard wrote "Look forward to the songs of Ivor Novello and Jerome Kern rendered with a mixture of New York sass and professional polish!" and Cabaret Scenes' Peter Leavy who caught the show said: "Blessed with a magnificent voice and a true bond with her audience ... alone, on stage, the lady soars! Hopefully, the critical waves created by the London media will wash upon American shores and help bring the show to Lorna's native land."

Reviewing her show last year at The FireBird, the New York Observer's Rex Reed wrote: "Lorna Dallas has a voice that wraps itself around theatrical gems with the warmth of a mink stole." John Hoglund of Back Stage called the show: "One of the season's finest evenings of cabaret currently on the boards. This is a rare opportunity to see a perfect show by a beautiful lady at the peak of her craft." Scott and Barbara Siegel, then writing for Show Business said: "She has an exquisite voice of which she has total control" and David Roberts of Theatre Reviews, Ltd. offered: "Ms. Dallas does not just sing, she personifies the words and music. A master of interpretation and song styling!"

The MAC Award-winning director Barry Kleinbort will direct "SPRING COLLECTION" and, once again, joining the team is the MAC Award-winning musical director Christopher Denny.

The complete performance schedule for "SPRING COLLECTION" will be: April 17 through 28, Tuesdays through Thursdays at 9:00 PM and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 and 11:00 PM.

There will be a $30 cover charge and a $15 food/drink minimum for LORNA DALLAS at ARCI'S PLACE (450 Park Avenue South, NYC - 212-532-4370 - http://www.arcisplace.com/). Lorna's website is at http://www.lornadallas.com/
