CANTONE TO HOST "LATE NIGHT 2001" A BENEFIT FOR THE JOSEPH PAPP
PUBLIC THEATER/NEW YORK SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

The Joseph Papp Public
Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival, George C. Wolfe, Producer,
Fran Reiter, Executive Director, announces that the second annual
late night benefit, "Late Night 2001", will be Friday, May 18th at
THE PUBLIC THEATER, 425 Lafayette Street. Cocktails begin at 8:00
pm, followed by dinner and performance at 9:00 pm, and Late Night
events in JOE'S PUB (425 Lafayette Street, NYC -
http://www.joespub.com/) from 11:00 pm until. . . Tickets to "Late
Night 2001" are $500 and can be purchased by calling 212-539-8738.
"Late Night 2001", representing
the multi-faceted programming of THE PUBLIC THEATER/New York Shakespeare
Festival and JOE'S PUB will be hosted by Mario Cantone. "Late Night
2001" is co-chaired by Public Theater Board member Alexandra Shiva
and Ginny Bond Donohue. There will be performances by Danny Hoch,
alexis and Antony and the Johnson's Orchestra.
Mario Cantone is a comic
of extravagant tantrums and extravagant gifts. The Village Voice writes
that Mr. Cantone is a "comic genius". Recent credits -- Film: And
She Was and Crooked Lines. TV: "Ed", "Sex and the City" and Comedy
Central Presents "Premium Blend" Æ his own ü hour special. Mario's
Public Theater credits include The Tempest and The Taming of the Shrew.
Danny Hoch is an actor,
writer and solo performer. His award winning play, "Some People" enjoyed
an acclaimed run at THE PUBLIC THEATER in 1994. "Some People" and
his other two solo shows, "Pot Melting" and "Jails Hospitals and Hip-Hop"
have toured over 50 cities to sold out houses, and have won numerous
awards. He has also written and acted for television and several films
including HBO's "Subway Stories," Terrence Malick's "Thing Red Line,"
Fox Searchlight's "Whiteboys" and New Line's "Prison Song." "Some
People" was made into a highly acclaimed HBO special, and was nominated
for a Cable Ace Award.
alexis, a singer, writer
and performer, is a South sole with an urban spirit. Her debut CD,
"Lucy's Blues" has sold out every week since its debut at the Virgin
Megastore in the winter of 2000. She has performed in New York's hip-hop
and poetry circuits and has appeared on the stages of off-Broadway
in "Bright Lights, Big City" and "The Princess and the Black-Eyed
Pea."
Antony, is a vocalist,
composer and performance artist. He has sung in nightclubs, theaters
and art venues throughout Manhattan, including JACKIE 60, LIMELIGHT,
WEBSTER HALL and PS 122. The self-described sex-punk torch diva's
look has been described as "postdrag," and his voice has been called
"absolutely hypnotic" by TIME OUT NEW YORK.
