MELBOURNE-BASED PERFORMER MELISSA LANGTON WINS 2001 SYDNEY CABARET CONVENTION


Will Appear in October in New York Cabaret Convention and at DON'T TELL MAMA

On Saturday night, June 30th, the 2001 Sydney Cabaret ConventionÍs prestigious City of Sydney Award, was won by Melissa Langton. Melissa is the first Melbourne performer to win this award. The Sydney Cabaret Convention, now in its fifth year, received over 200 entrants, and 40 were chosen to showcase their talent over four nights at the Sydney Town Hall. On the Saturday night, she performed alongside Renee Geyer, Geraldine Turner, Tim Draxl and many others, before being presented with her award.

The City Of Sydney Award will allow Melissa to travel to New York in late October and perform at The New York Cabaret Convention. She will also perform her new show "What Do You Think Of Me So Far???" at the popular New York cabaret venue, DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/). Her Musical Director, Mark Jones, will accompany her.

Melissa has spent the last 9 years touring Australia and New Zealand with shows like "Les Miserables," "The Mikado," "Jesus Christ Superstar," and "Pirates of Penzance," and has also performed in Melbourne productions of "Marry Me A Little," "Crusade," "Call Me Madam," "Life By Drowning" and "Martin and Gina." In the last two years she has been performing with the popular girl group, "The Fabulous Singlettes" at The Melbourne Comedy Festival, The Melbourne Grand Prix, The Sydney Olympics and in cabaret rooms in Berlin and Hamburg.

Since 1997 Melissa has been performing her own solo cabaret shows including "I Got The Music in Me," "Peel Me A Grape" and "WhatÍs New Pussycat?" Melissa is currently preparing her first solo CD.
