JASON
ROBERT BROWN AND ANDREA BURNS
TO PERFORM AT METROPOLIS, APRIL 21st & 22nd

CONCERTS
TO INCLUDE FAVORITES FROM "PARADE," "SONGS FOR A NEW
WORLD," AND A SPECIAL SNEAK PEEK AT "THE LAST FIVE YEARS"
Arlington
Heights, IL, April 5, 2001 - Tony Award winning composer Jason Robert
Brown and special guest Andrea Burns are the next nationally acclaimed
cabaret stars to play the METROPOLIS PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE (111 West
Campbell Street, Arlington Heights, IL - 847-577-2121 - http://www.metropolisarts.com/)
as part of its Broadway Cabaret Series.
Brown
and Burns will perform an exciting night of original songs, including
favorites from his acclaimed musicals "Parade" and "Songs for a New
World," and premiere several numbers from his upcoming new musical
"The Last Five Years." Performances are Friday and Saturday, April
21st and 22nd at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $27.50.
Previewing his Metropolis
engagement, Brown said "The thing is, when you watch a musical, you
have to judge and experience it in its entirety. So what we want to
do at Metropolis is take out pieces of those shows and display them
on their own - the little paintings inside the big painting. Some
will be songs that I've written over the years that don't have a 'bigger
painting' to live in. And you get to hear Andrea Burns sing most of
them, which is no small joy in and of itself."
One of the nation's fastest
rising young composers, Brown is the 1998 Tony Award-winning composer
and lyricist of "Parade." Brown most recently conducted "Parade" on
its national tour. His next project is "The Last Five Years," a romantic
two-person musical navigating the mine fields of love and marriage,
premiering at Northlight Theatre in Skokie, May 16th through June
24th. His first musical, "Songs for a New World," has been heard in
more than 50 productions around the U.S. Brown will also perform numbers
from his new dance musical, "The Moneyman," and an upcoming solo album.
Andrea Burns starred on
Broadway in Stephen Sondheim's "Saturday Night" and in the national
tour of "Parade."
Still on tap in the Metropolis
Broadway Cabaret Series is Tom Andersen, Friday and Saturday, June
1st and 2nd at 8:00 pm.
One of today's finest young singers of contemporary pop and standards,
this Arlington Heights native is the most celebrated male singer/songwriter
in the history of MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs).
Tickets are $27.50.
Metropolis will also debut
a new Summer Cabaret series in 2001, with the best Chicago-area cabaret
artists performing eight consecutive Sundays, June 24th through August
12th at 8:00 pm, including Hollis Resnik (July 15th). Single tickets
