Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Announces 4th Return Engagement Of Broadway Actor WILL STUTTS

DOWNSTAIRS CABARET THEATRE in Rochester, NY is pleased to announce the 4th return engagement of Broadway actor Will Stutts in his critically and publicly acclaimed one-man productions "Noel Coward at the Cafœ de Paris," "Frank Lloyd Wright," and "Eye of the Storm." Performances will begin May 24th and continue, in rotation, through August 12th at DOWNSTAIRS CABARET THEATRE'S new satellite location: 172 West Main Street (1 block from Hochstein Music School), Rochester, NY - 716-325-4370 - http://www.downstairscabaret.com/).

Mr. Stutts' has been called "a master showman, an actor at his zenith and a writer of indisputable talent." Excepting Hal Holbrook, Will Stutts has worked longer and more in the genre of the one-person play than any other actor in the world. Among the productions he has written or devised, and starred in, are "Mark Twain's America," "Journey Through the Mind . . . Edgar Allan Poe," "Walt Whitman: Liberal and Lusty in Nature," "Noel Coward at the Cafœ de Paris," "Barrymore!," "Tallulah," "Frank Lloyd Wright," and "Tennessee Williams." Over three decades, Stutts has appeared in 39 of the United States and three Canadian provinces, in well over 1,000 single engagements before audiences estimated to total over one million. A native of Alabama, Stutts' second cousin was the legendary actress, Tallulah Bankhead. He attended Yale University's School of Drama, appeared in seven Broadway productions (including "Spoon River Anthology" with Will Geer and Agnes Moorehead, "Night of the Iguana" and "Richard II" with Richard Chamberlain, "Present Laughter" with George C. Scott, and "Queen and the Rebels" with Colleen Dewhurst) and in more than a score of off-Broadway shows. He has acted and / or directed at virtually every major regional theatre in the U.S.

"Noel Coward at the Cafœ de Paris" is a marvelous musical party showcasing the songs, humor, and witty repartee of the legendary British playwright Noel Coward ("Private Lives," "Hay Fever," "Blithe Spirit"). In this nostalgic portrait, Coward regales us with the stories and anecdotes about his upbringing, his early career and his success in the theatre.

Nominated for the 1996 Barrymore Award for Outstanding New Play, "Frank Lloyd Wright" takes the audience on a theatrical roller coaster ride about America's premiere building designer Æ how Wright's experiences as a father of six helped lead to his ideas of how homes should be built, how he ran away with the wife of a client during the height of his mid-life crisis, how he was later arrested for immorality, and how his marriage ended in a tragic murder.

"Eye of the Storm" pays tribute to the courageous Judge Frank Johnson, Jr. of Alabama. Johnson's uncompromising stance on Civil Rights in the 50s and 60s helped change the social and political landscape of our nation. Over his 44-year career, in addition to racial civil rights, Johnson took on the penal and mental health institutions, establishing standards that have become the legal norm across the country. Johnson's decisions, perhaps more so than any judge's in our history, radically altered the very fabric of American society and, ultimately, the judicial system itself.

Mr. Stutts' performances are Co-produced by: Buckingham Properties; Harter, Secrest, and Emery LLP; Julie E. Petit; George & Irene Haskins; and George & Marsha Tillson. The three productions will be performed in a rotating repertory schedule throughout the summer. Ticket prices are $18-21 general admission, $15-18 seniors (age 60 and above) and groups (10 or more people), and $9-10.50 full-time students. Additional discounts for current DCT members.
