SHOW
HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WTC DISASTER - WILL BE RESCHEDULED
Chicago
based singer and actress Joan Curto will be making her New York debut,
with her critically acclaimed cabaret show "Unexpressed?" at JUDY'S
CHELSEA (169 Eighth Avenue, NYC - 212-929-5410 - http://www.judyschelsea.com/)
on Wednesday, September 12th and Friday, September 14th, both shows
at 8:30 pm.
Musical Direction is by
Dan Stetzel, also from Chicago. Chicago audiences and critics have
been unanimous in praising Joan's current show. It is an eclectic
collection of songs featuring great composers from both the American
Songbook and contemporary music. Songs featured range from the 1937
song "I Double Dare You," to Amanda McBroom's touching "Putting Things
Away." Other highlights include songs by Julie Gold, Kurt Weill, Susan
Werner, Carol Hall and the beautiful title song "Unexpressed" by John
Bucchino. The show is directed by Ron Cohn.
Joan is quickly establishing
herself as a top cabaret performer in Chicago. She performs regularly
at DAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830
- http://www.davenportspianobar.com/),
and this past year performed in a special ASCAP concert in conjunction
with the Chicago Humanities Festival with Amanda McBroom, Stephen
Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, Babbie Green, Steven Lutvak, David Friedman
and several other Chicago based performers. In addition Joan was selected
last summer to attend the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Cabaret Symposium
in Waterford Connecticut where she studied with master teachers Julie
Wilson, Margaret Whiting, Carol Hall, Sally Mayes and other top performers.
Chicago audiences have
enjoyed Joan in many theater performances over the years. She has
appeared in the lead roles of SOUTH PACIFIC, THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG,
BABY, FOLLIES, JERRY'S GIRLS and has been a part of many benefit concerts
for Season of Concern.
Although a long time resident
of Chicago, Joan was born in Philadelphia, and spent her teen years
in Stamford, Connecticut. "Coming to New York, feels like coming home!"
