Summer
Season Heating Up at Arci's Place

Three Young
Stars Headline a Critically Acclaimed June Line-Up
JIM CARUSO Æ ROB EVAN Æ DARIUS de HAAS
Three of the cabaret world's
most lauded young headliners will take the stage at ARCI'S PLACE (450
Park Avenue South, NYC - 212-532-4370 - http://www.arcisplace.com/)
to kick off the highly anticipated summer cabaret season. Jim Caruso,
a MAC and Back Stage Bistro award winner for musical comedy, opens
his new show, "Laughing Matters" on Monday June 4th at 8 pm. The show
continues every Monday through July, except July 2nd. JEKYLL & HYDE
leading man Rob Evan brings his rich baritone to Arci's Place for
the first time, performing his show "The Kid Inside" June 12th through
23rd. Darius de Haas was called "an astonishing vocal acrobat" (New
York Times) when he debuted "So This Is Love: A Billy Strayhorn Evening"
at the cabaret arm of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series earlier
this year. He will present a streamlined version of the show called
"Variations on Strayhorn" at Arci's Place June 26th through July 7th.
Jim Caruso's Monday shows will be at 8:00 pm. All other shows are
Tuesday through Thursday at 9:00 pm and Friday and Saturday at 8:30
pm and 11:00 pm. Tickets to the shows are $30, with a $15 food / drink
minimum. Reservations are strongly suggested.
JIM
CARUSO has won many awards for his unique blend of humor and music,
most recently the 2001 MAC Award for Excellence in Musical Comedy
and the 2001 Back Stage Bistro Award for his show "Caruso Æ Live and
in Person." This year's show "Laughing Matters" proves that Jim is
showing no signs of letting up as he features comic songs by Weird
Al Yankovic, Amanda Green, John Wallowitch, Carol Hall and Dave Frishberg
intertwined with his trademark wit and irreverent between song banter.
Jim also will be performing the Bette Midler / Marc Shaiman titty-ditty
"Otto Titsling" (from "Beaches"), as well as an homage to Jim's personal
hero Dick Van Dyke. "Laughing Matters" features Johnny Rodgers, who
accompanies Mr. Caruso on piano and occasional vocals. Performances
are Mondays at 8:00 pm (No Performance July 2) through July 30th.
ROB
EVAN starred on Broadway as Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLES and
in the original Broadway cast of JEKYLL & HYDE, playing the title
roles for three years and over 600 performances. His rendition of
"This is the Moment" has been performed at numerous prestigious events
including the 1998 Goodwill Games, the 1998 and 1999 New York Yankees
World Series Celebration at City Hall, ABC's Monday Night Football
and the Today Show. "The Kid Inside" reveals Rob's love for his family
through a series of songs that show his playful devotion to his three
young sons and his passionate love for his wife. Mr. Evan is backed
by his musical director Neil Berg on piano, Bernd Schoenhart on guitar
and Roger Cohen on percussion. Performances are Tuesdays through Thursdays
at 9:00 pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm, June
12th through 23rd.
DARIUS
de HAAS is already a Broadway veteran, beginning with his debut
in KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN (starring Chita Rivera and later Vanessa
Williams) and continuing through Broadway productions of CAROUSEL,
The Gershwin's FASCINATING RHYTHM, MARIE CHRISTINE and the original
Broadway cast of RENT. "Variations on Strayhorn" features the work
of the great Duke Ellington collaborator Billy Strayhorn, an often-overshadowed
jazz composer who died in 1967. Deidre Rodman accompanies Darius on
piano with Roy Nathanson on saxophone. Of Mr. de Haas's performance,
the New York Times raved: "Every gesture seemed informed by the singer's
understanding of Strayhorn's compositions as being not simply pop
or jazz songs but pliable tone poems that ask to be stretched and
flexed for all their colors to be revealed. This extraordinary program
(the high point so far in this series) has to be recorded and videotaped,
perhaps for PBS's ïGreat Performances.'" Performances are Tuesdays
through Thursdays at 9:00 pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 pm
and 11:00 pm from June 26th through July 7th.
