TOM ANDERSEN HEADS HOME
FOR MIDWEST SHOWS

Who says you can't go home again? That's what Tom Andersen is doing in June. The 5-time MAC Award-winning singer-songwriter will headline June 1st & 2nd in the "Broadway Cabaret" series at the METROPOLIS PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE in his hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Then the multitalented tenor will journey to the next-door state of Wisconsin to help kick off Milwaukee's "1st Annual Cabaret Artists Series" on June 22nd & 23rd at the STACKNER CABARET.

Though Mr. Andersen has played Carnegie Hall in New York, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco and the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, he says he's especially excited to perform before a hometown crowd. The last time he sang in the Midwest was 1997, when he shared a double bill with Angela LaGreca at TOULOUSE ON THE PARK and garnered a rave review from the Chicago Tribune.

In fact, Tom's June 1st & 2nd gig in Arlington Heights, just outside of Chicago, really hits close to home. His parents, Jim and Carol, live literally just two blocks down the street from the theater. Tom says, "I grew up in that neighborhood. I did community theater with [future Broadway and cabaret star] Karen Mason. And I remember being in the WASPiest version you've ever seen of 'Fiddler on the Roof.' I also performed at the Great America theme park in Gurnee with [another future Broadway and cabaret star] Liz Callaway. We had a blast! ... As for Wisconsin, I went there a lot, too. My family vacationed there every year [in Burlington], and it's one of the most beautiful parts of the country."

And the last time he performed in Arlington Heights? Andersen says it might've been high school. Ironically, for a critically acclaimed singer who's been compared to Johnny Mathis by the NEW YORK TIMES, he said didn't do any musicals, just straight plays, like "The Man Who Came to Dinner." With the Metropolis booking only blocks from where he grew up, he gets to bring everything full circle. He adds, "I'm gonna love seeing so many family and friends from my past!"

So far, it's been a busy year for Tom Andersen. In January, the 3-time Bistro Award winner kicked off the "Broadway Cabaret" series at the Crest Theatre in Delray Beach, Fla., and last month, he was singing on cruises to the Bahamas and Mexico. In May, he is returning in "This Life: The Songs of Portia Nelson," the 2001 Bistro Award winner for Outstanding Musical Revue, at THE FIREBIRD CAFE (363 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-586-0244 - http://www.firebirdrestaurant.com/). Directed by John Znidarsic, he'll reunite with Terri Klausner, Deborah Tranelli and Paul Katz, and the show will play Thursdays, May 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th at 9:00 pm.

Andersen will play Friday & Saturday, June 1st & 2nd at 8 pm at the METROPOLIS PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE (111 West Campbell, Arlington Heights, IL - 847-577-2121 - http://www.metropolis.com/). Tickets are $27.50. Tom also will perform Friday, June 22nd at 8 pm and Saturday, June 23rd at 6:00 and 9:00 pm at the STACKNER CABARET (108 East Wells Street, Milwaukee, WI - 414-224-9490 - http://www.milwaukeerep.com/). Tickets are $30.
