News
CELEBRATING OUR 15th YEAR COVERING CABARET ALL OVER
THE WORLD!
NOW - BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
If it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably
read it here first!
This is the MIDWEEK Issue this of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, which includes
news, breaking stories and notes, cabaret tips, announcements of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE reviews, plus listings of shows offering discounts
to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. The MONDAY Issue of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE includes cabaret listings for around the world, and
also includes information on all the banner ads running on the CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE website.
ATTENTION AOL USERS: Over 400 newsletters sent out to AOL subscribers
have been bouncing back each issue - with no resolution coming from
AOL in spite of repeated promises. All copies of past issues are archived
on the website.
SLIGHT FORMAT CHANGE CONTINUES
This issue continues our new format, sort of, for CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE. In an effort to avoid repetition from week to week, items
in the CABARET NEWS section will appear in just one issue - and then
will be moved to the NEWS BRIEFS sections for each geographical/subject
area on the website. This does not apply to the shows running banners
on the website, which will continue to be listed each week in the
MONDAY issue, or those offering discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE, which will continue to be listed each week in the MIDWEEK
issue. Also, shows that feature guest performers (variety shows, interview
shows, workshops, web/radio/TV shows, etc.) will also appear, providing
updated guest information. These items must be received 2 days before
issue date to be included. Items will also be marked "SEE WEBSITE
FOR MORE" if a more detailed article appears in the CABARET NEWS page
on the website.
JUNE IS BUSTING OUT ALL OVER!
The weather says it is March - 40 degree (f) temperatures at night,
maybe getting up to 55 degrees (f) during the day, with lots of rain,
very little sunshine. But it is Fleet Week, the Memorial Day Weekend
coming on fast, and my desk is piled up with June schedules from many
of the clubs. A glance at the schedules, press releases and show fliers
that have been coming in the past few days tells me it will be a great
time for cabaret in June - no matter where you live.
Meantime, day by day my knee heals a bit more, and
even part of what I thought would be an eternal nasty scar is even
disappearing! And after that scare last week Friday, I have been
able to get out-and-about again, catching two shows on Tuesday (Alison
Nead at ROSE'S TURN and "Remembering Nancy" at THE DUPLEX), 3 shows
last night (The MAC/ASCAP Showcase at THE LIGHTHOUSE, "Live at The
Turn" at ROSE'S TURN, and Sonya Ledanski at THE ENCORE). I have
2 shows on my schedule for tonight, and 2 more on Friday night.
Feeling great - and lets all hope that continues.
Things are proceeding with the plans for the special
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BIRTHDAY PARTY to be held on Wednesday, July
6th at THE ENCORE (266 West 47th Street, NYC - 212-221-3960 - http://www.theencorenyc.com/
). There are details below, but two additional items have just been
added. First, at the pre-show party, free to all 2005-2006 members
($20 SILVER memberships will be available at the door), two featured
guests will be puppeteer Tim Reilly and Miss Dynell, America's ugliest
white woman. Other performers will soon be announced as well. Secondly,
at the show at 7:30 pm in the cabaret room, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
will announce the first JEFF MATSON MEMORIAL AWARD, to be given
to a performer, musical director, writer, director or graphic designer
showing outstanding excellence, talent and creativity in cabaret.
More details and more news to come. Remember, tickets to the 7:30
pm show go on sale on the 1st of June, via the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/
). Please don't call the club.
HAVING TROUBLE USING PAYPAL?
Yes, it can be confusing. If you have a problem, send me an e-mail
with the amount you wish to send and I will send you a PayPal "invoice"
which everyone says makes the procedure easy. For new PayPal users,
there is a full set of instructions included with the "invoice."

pianist...in a room full of people with ears that were open and hearts

CABARET NEWS ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world
can be found on the BREAKING NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/
). How do you get an item posted in the BREAKING NEWS section of the
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of
at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your
show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in
jpg or gif format if available. By the way, I try to get information
about shows offering CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE discounts up on the website
first. I am also especially interested in releases on shows outside
the NYC area.
Please send me complete information - and do not
merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.
With two newsletters going out a week, I don't have enough time
to look these things up, and often have to simply toss out incomplete
items. By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press
releases I receive before using the item on my website or in the
newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four or
more paragraphs.
TIME TO GO
At the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things
in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep
my promise? This has actually been a fun issue to write - with a lot
of exciting news to relate to you all.
A great big thank you to the more than 60 folks who
have already joined as members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for the
2005-2006 membership year - which actually starts on July 6th but
effective as you card received. Last year over 400 folks took advantage
of membership and gave their support to this publication and website.
