Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret
News
CELEBRATING OUR 15th YEAR COVERING CABARET ALL OVER
THE WORLD! NOW - BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
If it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably
read it here first!
This is the MIDWEEK Issue this of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, which includes
news, breaking stories and notes, cabaret tips, announcements of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE reviews, plus listings of shows offering discounts
to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. The MONDAY Issue of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE includes cabaret listings for around the world, and
also includes information on all the banner ads running on the CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE website.
ATTENTION AOL USERS: Over 400 newsletters sent out to AOL subscribers
have been bouncing back each issue - with no resolution coming from
AOL in spite of repeated promises. All copies of past issues are archived
on the website.
This issue starts a new format, sort of, for the MIDWEEK CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE. In an effort to avoid repetition from week to week, items
in the CABARET NEWS section will appear just once - and then will
be moved to the NEWS BRIEFS sections for each geographical/subject
area. This does not apply to the shows offering discounts to members
of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, which will continue to be listed each week
in the MIDWEEK issue. Also, shows that feature guest performers (variety
shows, interview shows, workshops, etc.) will also appear, providing
the guest information is received in time - Wednesday nights at the
very latest. Items will also be marked " SEE WEBSITE FOR MORE" if
a more detailed article appears in the CABARET NEWS page on the website.
A great big thank you to the more than 50 folks who have already joined
as members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for the 2005-2006 membership
year - which actually starts on July 6th but effective as you card
received. I will be sending out the first batch of cards (and CDs
to GOLD members and above) this weekend.
You might want to join or rejoin right now for the
new membership year as well, especially if you plan to attend our
15th Anniversary Party/Show at THE ENCORE (266 West 47th Street,
NYC - 212-221-3960 - http://www.theencorenyc.com/
) on July 6th (details further down in this issue). 2005-2006 members
will be admitted FREE to the pre-show party in the piano bar starting
at 6:00 pm. You can join for the $20 SILVER membership cost at the
door, or join in advance and save yourself a lot of delay. And 2005-2006
members will get a $15 discount for the show that starts at 7:30
pm in the cabaret room. (Your benefits start immediately!) SILVER
memberships are just $20 - GOLD memberships are $75 with a bunch
of extra benefits. Read more about how to join, and more about the
party and show in this issue or on the website - just click on this
line: mailto:membership@svhamstra.com?subject=MEMBERSHIP
If you think putting on a benefit cabaret show is easy, check again.
There are a lot of details I am just finding out about, but the most
difficult part is choosing the performers to appear. My first idea
was to use as many performers as possible, so I planned on a show
filled with duets, trios and more. But the very first two groups I
contacted could not make the date - July is vacation time for many,
and to arrange for three or four members of a group, plus in many
cases a accompanist, to get their schedules coordinated is nearly
impossible. So much for that idea.
So, instead I made a list - of folks who have been
favorites of mine for several years, who have shown the same kind
of perseverance and dedication to the art of cabaret that CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE represents. For the most part I saw their very first
performances in cabaret, and I have joyfully watched them grow as
performers over the years. I started with a list of over 30 (I'm
sure if I worked on it a bit more it would have grown to 50 or more).
I cut the list to 15 or so, and then trimmed a little more to try
to fit everything into a 90-minute show. Amazingly, all the folks
except one (he had another, paying, gig on the 6th) that I invited
accepted. As with all live entertainment events, the list is subject
to change - so I am holding a few names in reserve, especially since
one performer on the program is expecting a baby in late June.
I think everyone will have a great time at the show.
Steven Ray Watkins will be musical director, and we have even lined
up a few "surprise" guests to add a bit of sparkle and excitement
to the evening. Tickets will go on sale on June 1st - on the website
only - so don't call THE ENCORE.
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE continues all summer long - we never take a
vacation from sending out our twice-a-week issues. So, if you run
a banner ad in July and/or August, you will be promoted in every MONDAY
issue week after week (and if you offer a discount to members of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE, in the MIDWEEK issue as well!). Now the good news:
We are having a special BIG & BIGGER BANNER sale in July and August!
Get four weeks supersize banner advertising for the price of three,
or get three weeks megasize banner advertising for the price of two!
This offer is for a limited number of banners running between June
26th, 2005 and September 3rd, 2005. Savings run from 20% to 30% -
more if you are a GOLD or above member.
To qualify for this special price, the SUPERSIZE
banner must begin its 4-week run no later than August 7th, 2005,
the MEGASIZE banner must begin its run no later than August 14th,
2005. It must run for only four weeks, or three weeks respectively
- no extensions at these prices. Advertising is limited to one banner
per advertiser per given period. Completed Banner must be provided
by the advertiser.
The number of banners available in this offer is
limited to 15 per week, since several of the 20 slots normally available
are already reserved. Banner must be paid in full before start of
run. Acceptable ads are placed on first-ordered, first-paid, first-served
basis. I reserve the right to reject any ad or link that I feel
in any way would offend my regular web page visitors, is not cabaret-related
or would not be appropriate for the website. Banners will run from
SUNDAY through SATURDAY.

as a sensitive spirit in an increasingly desensitized society. Singer/Composer/Pianist
Marc McBarron Kessler performs his original, cutting-edge music in
an exclusive concert at Rose's Turn on May 27th at 7:00 pm. With just
a piano and plenty of stories to tell, Kessler sings his heart on

music happy hour at legendary piano bar Marie's Crisis, entertaining
even the most jaded audiences with his lyrical sincerity and passionate
piano playing. Open as a diary, alarmingly personal, Kessler possesses
a quirky blend of vulnerability and ferocity, inspiring TIME OUT NY
to say, "Kessler is an artist to watch! His brave honest songs are
much more than the pop flavor of the month. If John Mayer ever wanted
to do cabaret, he might sound just a little like this young performer".

CABARET NEWS ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world
can be found on the BREAKING NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/
). How do you get an item posted in the BREAKING NEWS section of the
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of
at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your
show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in
jpg or gif format if available. By the way, I try to get information
about shows offering CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE discounts up on the website
first. I am also especially interested in releases on shows outside
the NYC area.
Please send me complete information - and do not
merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.
With two newsletters going out a week, I don't have enough time
to look these things up, and often have to simply toss out incomplete
items. By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press
releases I receive before using the item on my website or in the
newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four or
more paragraphs.
TIME TO GO
At the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things
