Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret
News
CELEBRATING OUR 15th YEAR COVERING CABARET ALL OVER
THE WORLD!
NOW - BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
If it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably
read it here first!
This is a MONDAY NEWS Issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and also includes
information on all the banner ads running on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website plus listings for around the world, including shows at over
100 venues and covering over 300 performances (with a number offering
discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE). The MID-WEEK issue,
normally sent on Thursdays, will include more news, breaking stories
and notes, cabaret tips, review summaries, plus listings of shows
offering discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
ATTENTION AOL USERS: Over 400 newsletters sent out to AOL subscribers
have been bouncing back each issue - with no resolution coming from
AOL in spite of promises. All copies of past issues are archived on
the website.
I spent a quiet weekend, adding nearly 20 news items to the CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE website, and gathering news for this issue. Now I will
get going on my report on the MAC awards show. Once again its a jam-packed
Monday Listings issue! Just a few notes and then on with the news:
THE STATE OF THE KNEE - ANOTHER UPDATE
On Friday the 29th I was back at the HOSPITAL FOR SPECIAL SURGERY
for a checkup on my knee - for those new to the newsletter, on Thursday,
the 10th of March, on my way to a 6:00 pm cabaret show, I tripped
on the last step of the subway exit and twisted my left knee, tearing
loose all the knee ligaments - called the quadriceps. On Monday, the
28th of March I had surgery to repair the injury. This was my second
post-surgery visit to the doctor, and he had some good news - and
some bad news. First the bad news: I will have to continue with the
cumbersome knee brace for at least another six weeks (including those
miserable crutches). I will begin physical therapy in two weeks, and
return to the doctor at the end of the six week period (June 10th)
to check the results. Now the good news: I can remove the brace at
night when sleeping. Doesn't sound that great, but believe me, it
is a welcome relief! Thankfully as well, Medicare is picking up most
of the tab - totaling over $6000 so far and I don't even have a copy
of the bill for the hospital stay (one night) yet. The saga continues.
CABARET HOTLINE SPRING ONLINE BENEFIT UPDATE
Our SPRING ONLINE BENEFIT for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is drawing to
a close. We didn't reach our $2500 goal (we did thankfully received
nearly $2000 towards that goal) and I cannot thank all who took part
in the drive enough for their financial support and good wishes. I
was able to cover nearly $3500 in rent & security deposit costs in
both the old apartment and the new one, including the cost of moving,
packing supplies and cost to relocate phone lines, etc. At the same
time I was able to cover my normal expenses - phone & DSL line, food,
clothing, taxis (using a lot more of them lately), and all those things
we don't think about until the bill comes in the mail. So, once more
a big thank you to my friends and my family for helping us get through
a very stress-filled period.
Why does the benefit continue? Well, cash is low
and is likely to remain so until the Social Security check comes
in on the 11th. Hopefully by then there will be a upswing in banner
ads as well, and on Thursday, May 5th, we will begin accepting memberships
for the 2005-2006 membership year (which actually starts on July
6th). So new members joining after the 5th of May will get the benefit
of an extra 2 months. More on this next issue.
You don't need to make a reservation for our ONLINE
BENEFIT, you don't need to brave the elements, you don't need to
hire a baby sitter and you don't need to pay a huge fee to park
your car in order to attend. You don't need to pay a 2-drink minimum,
and, best of all, folks anywhere in the world can take part. This
special on-line benefit is being held to cover the expenses associated
with moving to the new apartment, plus some of the non-insurance
covered costs of my recent knee operation (there are deductibles,
co-pays, non-covered procedures, etc., to worry about). Most of
all, I have had to rely a lot on taxis lately, especially to and
from doctor/physical therapy visits, and to get home late in the
evening - one feels quite vulnerable walking on crutches in the
subways or waiting for a bus late at night.
If you would like to "attend" the online benefit,
just go to my website and click on the SPRING BENEFIT DRIVE link
at the top of the right column. This will take you to a page where
you can send your gift directly, safely and efficiently via PayPal.
You can donate any amount - $10, $50, $100, whatever you can afford.
I have been posting a running total of receipts and all donors will
be listed (unless they decline) on a special 'ANGELS' page on the
website. So far over nearly $2000 has been received towards our
$2500 estimated goal. I am counting on you.
If you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal,
you can send a check made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it
to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.
2005-2006 MEMBERSHIPS RENEWALS BEING ACCEPTED
If you wish to pre-renew your membership for the 2005-2006 membership
year (which starts on July 6, 2005), instead of or in addition to
a donation to the ONLINE BENEFIT, there is also a link on the BENEFIT
/ MEMBERSHIP DRIVE page to do just that. New 2005-2006 memberships
will not start until May 5th. You financial support will be most appreciated.
Please keep in mind that, except for a monthly social security check,
my only income is from banner ads, memberships and donations. SILVER
basic memberships are $20, and GOLD supporting memberships are $75.
Memberships are available for greater amounts as well. For information
on becoming a contributing member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, check
at http://svhamstra.com/Membership.shtml
or else just send me a note at membership@svhamstra.com
with the single word "membership" in the subject line, and I'll send
all the details. You can even make your donation by credit card, using
PayPal. If you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal, you can
send a check made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it to CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.
REAL LIVE BENEFIT/CELEBRATION TO BE HELD IN JULY FOR CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE
I am planning a real, actual, benefit and membership drive on July
6th to celebrate the 15th birthday of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - coinciding
with my 66th birthday. Anyone contributing to the SPRING ONLINE benefit
with a donation of $25 or more will get a special $10 discount on
the summer benefit ticket. In a few days I will be adding a special
page on the website with details on the benefit, including a link
where you can order your reservations - space for the benefit show
is limited 70 guests, but a pre-show open-mic party will be also be
scheduled with a special discount for all members of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE. More news soon. I have not yet announced the place of the
show, since I don't want anyone to phone the club to make advance
reservations - all reservations must be made via the website.
