ATTENTION AOL USERS: Over 400 newsletters sent out to AOL subscribers have been bouncing back each issue - with no resolution coming from AOL in spite of promises. All copies of past issues are archived on the website.

I wish I could say that the move to the new apartment went smoothly and without incident, but when has that ever happened to anyone? The actual movement of stuff was only a few miles, and took about 20 travel minutes. But it took over 24 hours in the end. But I am happy to say that I survived the event - weary but satisfied.

In NYC, where most folks live in apartments - and small apartments at that - one doesn't normally call one of the large national-brand moving companies. One calls a "man-with-van" operation, mostly one or two truck operations, paid by the hour, strictly for cash. The only problem is that, for the most part, there are no contracts, no advance estimates, and unless you ride along with the van, you entrust your goods to the van operators and pray. So we scheduled the pickup for Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm (they estimated it would cost $150), packed everything up, and waited. And waited, and waited. Finally, at 4:30 pm I got a phone call, saying they were delayed and would be there around 6:00 pm. Apparently, they had gotten a better offer from someone else. Not wanting to move in the dark (and just a bit miffed) I canceled the move.

Once again my pal Daniel came to the rescue. Just a few blocks from his apartment there is a real moving company, with a real office and real trucks. It would cost $250 but they guaranteed the job. And what a great job they did. At 2:00 pm on Sunday they arrived (three men and a truck), by 3:00 pm the truck was loaded (down three flights of stairs), and by 4:30 pm everything was in the new space (up 3 flights of stairs). I didn't have to lift a finger - just watch.

I'm still not fully unpacked, but I'm here, and back online (using the already installed DSL line of my roommate) and ready to send out another MONDAY issue. This will not be as complete as planned, since I had to wait until Sunday night to start on it - if I had moved on Saturday I would had all day Sunday. So, look for more news items in the MID-WEEK issue. On Wednesday afternoon they will install my DirecTV hookup - I already miss my daily dose of "Law & Order," as well as my own DSL connection from Verizon.

Please note that the mailing address of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE will not change - it will remain 676A Ninth Avenue #120, New York, NY 10036 - this is a MAILBOXES, ETC. store where I have received my mail for many years (ever since my mail began disappearing at my former mid-town address).

WILL I SEE YOU AT THE MAC AWARDS SHOW TONIGHT?
As you will see below, there are a lot of things going on tonight, here in NYC and elsewhere around the country. But if you are in the NYC area and want to support the art and the performers of cabaret, I know you will do your best to be at THE PETER NORTON SYMPHONY SPACE (Broadway at 95th Street - 212-864-1414) at 7:30 pm for the 19th Annual MAC AWARD SHOW. This is the one day of the year when NYC celebrates cabaret by honoring performers and performances. This is THE year, THE time and THE place for all NYC area performers and friends of cabaret to show their stuff by purchasing a ticket and attending the show. Come and celebrate the NEW MAC.

MAC always puts on a great awards show and all NYC area performers and cabaret fans who love cabaret and want to see it continue to grow and flourish should be attending this year, showing their support. Tickets are still available at the box office.

The official MAC after-show party will be held at AIX (2398 Broadway (at 88th Street, NYC - 212-874-7400). Tickets are $45 and best bet is to phone MAC at 212-465-2662 to reserve your tickets, since space is very limited.

CABARET HOTLINE SPRING ONLINE BENEFIT UPDATE
We're holding a spring on-line benefit - you don't need to make a reservation, you don't need to brave the elements, you don't need to hire a baby sitter and you don't need to pay a huge fee to park your car in order to attend. You don't need to pay a 2-drink minimum, and, best of all, folks anywhere in the world can take part. This special on-line benefit is being held to cover the expenses associated with moving to the new apartment, plus some of the non-insurance covered costs of my recent knee operation (there are deductibles, co-pays, non-covered procedures, etc., to worry about). Most of all, I have had to rely a lot on taxis lately, especially to and from doctor visits, and to get home late in the evening - one feels quite vulnerable walking on crutches in the subways or waiting for a bus late at night.

Biggest unexpected expense was when my roommate moved out unexpectedly on the 31st of March, meaning I needed to pay "double rent" in April, and I had to find a new living space, which meant moving expenses, advance rent & security deposit and other possible unexpected charges.

If you would like to "attend" the online benefit, just go to my website and click on the SPRING BENEFIT DRIVE link at the top of the right column. You can donate any amount - $10, $50, $100, whatever you can afford. I will be posting a running total of receipts and all donors will be listed (unless they decline) on a special 'ANGELS' page on the website. So far over $1,600 has been received towards our $2,500 estimated goal. I am counting on you to help us through this difficult and expensive period.

If you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal, you can send a check made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.

BIG THANK YOU TO A BIG AND LITTLE SISTER
Just a quick thank you to both my big sister (older, not really bigger) Gladys and my little sister (younger, and yet not bigger) Ann for coming through in the pinch with some generous PayPal gifts to help make this very important weekend go quite a bit easier.

MORE NEWS & LISTINGS PLEASE
I am back to working alone on the newsletter and the website, and so I don't have as much time as before to check out the websites of venues around the country for news and listing items. If you are reading this newsletter, and you are a performer or booking manager with shows scheduled for March, April and beyond, you can save me a lot of time and effort by sending in your listings to stuhamstra@cabarethotlineonline.com - I will do my best to give you coverage in the MONDAY and MID-WEEK issues. Please remember, the more complete the listing, the more likely I will use it.

PROMOTE YOUR SHOW, CD OR OTHER EVENT WITH A BANNER ON THE WEBSITE
I don't want you to miss out if you are planning on running a banner for your show in March and April. I limit the number of ads to 20 per week. A banner ad for three weeks can cost as little as $108 total - if you take advantage of the PayPal and Member Deals discounts - and even less if you are a GOLD member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. SILVER members receive a one-time rebate of $20 on their first banner ad of the membership year.

Performers running banners get a special listing for their show or other cabaret-related item in every MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, reaching nearly 2,500 subscribers. Go to http://svhamstra.com/BannerHere.shtml or else just send me a note at banners@svhamstra.com with the single word "banners" in the subject line, and I'll send all the details.
