Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret
News
CELEBRATING
OUR 15th YEAR COVERING CABARET ALL OVER THE WORLD!
NOW - BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
If it's
anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!
This is a MONDAY NEWS Issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and also includes
information on all the banner ads running on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website. The MONDAY LISTINGS issue, which includes cabaret listings
for around the world, including listings of shows at over 100 venues
and covering over 300 performances (with a number offering discounts
to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE) is being sent in a second mailing.
The MID-WEEK issue, normally sent on Thursdays, will include more
news, breaking stories and notes, cabaret tips, review summaries,
plus listings of shows offering discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE.
Here we go again, with
a second test of a new format for the MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE - and once again we solicit your comments and suggestions.
I have split the MONDAY issue into two mailings - this first one,
the NEWS issue, consisting of news items plus announcements regarding
all the banners currently running on the website.
Later today
I will send out the second part - the LISTINGS issue - giving listings
for shows around the world. As more and more clubs and performers
send me their listings, the regular MONDAY issue has gotten so large,
some e-mail systems have rejected the issues or converted the information
to an attachment (and creating the same problem we had with the
PDF system).
Just a short update on
our housing crisis - I have to either find a new roommate or find
a new place to live by the end of March. I have narrowed the search
somewhat, and should be announcing the news, perhaps as early as the
Thursday issue. I also thank the folks who sent in some special donations
and advance memberships to help us though the impending financial
complications. Thanks also to the many letters I received with suggestions,
referrals and even one offer of a temporary place to live if I am
forced to move but have not yet found a new location. My rent will
double at the end of this month if I choose to stay here, and can't
find someone to share the space and costs. If I move, I need to raise
enough for deposit and advance rent at any new space. Stay tuned -
and if you are one of the folks who still owe banner ad payments from
the past, now would be a great time to hear from you (there is over
$500 outstanding, some from 2003!). If you haven't joined as a member
yet, please consider making that donation today.
SOME SEATS STILL AVAILABLE
FOR 1929 MUSICALS SHOW TONIGHT
Scott Siegel announced
that there are still seats available for tonight's one-night only
performance of The Broadway Musicals of 1929, the first of four concerts
in this season's Broadway by the Year series at THE TOWN HALL (123
West 43rd Street, NYC - http://www.the-townhall-nyc.org/
). "Though the orchestra and the lower balcony are entirely sold out,"
he said, "there are still a goodly number of seats available in the
back half of the balcony. No one should fear that if they go to the
box office that they'll be turned away. It's a fifteen hundred seat
theater so even when it's almost full there are still lots of seats
available."
Mr. Siegel
went on to say, "I'm very proud that our cabaret world is so wonderfully
represented by Leslie Anderson in this exquisite cast that also
includes Nancy Anderson, Christine Andreas, Bryan Batt, Ron Bohmer,
Mary Bond Davis, Jeffry Denman, Noah Racey, and Emily Skinner. And
the music, I promise you, is to die for."
I must
add my comments:
First off,
this series has become one of the most highly regarded and acclaimed
programs to hit the NYC music scene. Every show is a spectacular
presentation, featuring stars of Broadway and cabaret performing
the famous (and not so famous) songs of Broadway. This particular
show covers a year with so many great shows and songs, Scott mentioned
that he could have developed two or maybe three nights to salute
it. In addition, the shows are recorded and release on CD - instant
musical treasures.
Secondly,
the shows are theatrical compendiums, with pithy, witty comments,
descriptions and trivia from Mr. Siegel that celebrate the songs,
the shows and the performers. It is much more than a musical event
- it is a musical celebration.
Finally,
tonight, cabaret artist Leslie Anderson is part of the cast. You
may have seen her in a cabaret room or entertaining in a piano bar,
but if you missed this year's NYC NIGHTLIFE AWARDS, you haven't
seen this talented lady performing on the big stage in a really
big room. Her riveting (and very funny) performance that night stopped
the show! So, wherever the seat, I guarantee you will have a good
time, and experience an evening you will long remember!
Tickets
are available at the box office or at TicketMaster at 212-307-4100.

MORE NEWS & LISTINGS PLEASE
I am back to working alone on the newsletter and the website, and
so I don't have as much time as before to check out the websites of
venues around the country for news and listing items. If you are reading
this newsletter, and you are a performer or booking manager with shows
scheduled for March, April and beyond, you can save me a lot of time
and effort by sending in your listings to stuhamstra@cabarethotlineonline.com
- I will do my best to give you coverage in the MONDAY and MID-WEEK
issues. Please remember, the more complete the listing, the more likely
I will use it.
PROMOTE YOUR SHOW, CD OR OTHER EVENT WITH A BANNER ON THE WEBSITE
I don't want you to miss out if you are planning on running a banner
for your show in March and April. I limit the number of ads to 20
per week. A banner ad for three weeks can cost as little as $108 total
- if you take advantage of the PayPal and Member Deals discounts -
and even less if you are a GOLD member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
SILVER members receive a one-time rebate of $20 on their first banner
ad of the membership year.
Performers running banners get a special listing
for their show or other cabaret-related item in every MONDAY issue
of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, reaching nearly 2,500 subscribers. Go
to http://svhamstra.com/BannerHere.shtml
or else just send me a note at banners@svhamstra.com
with the single word "banners" in the subject line, and I'll send
all the details.
LOCAL SIDE-BAR BANNERS NOW AVAILABLE ON SELECT PAGES
To even better serve performers and venues outside the NYC area, now
you can advertise your "out of NYC" cabaret event on local pages on
the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website for a mere $25 ($20 for CABARET
HOTLINE MEMBERS) for 4 continuous weeks of display - or just pennies
more than $6 per week. Payment MUST be made by PayPal in advance.
(Localized ads are not available on the NYC area pages at this time).
The ads will appear in four places: on the local NEWS BRIEFS, on the
local VENUE pages, on the local LISTINGS pages and the local REVIEW
index pages for Pennsylvania, New England, Chicago, Los Angeles and
San Francisco (as they appear). Check out any of the area NEWS BRIEFS
pages to see a sample of the ad size and location. Ads will be limited
to 5 ads per geographical area in any one week. Funds received for
these local pages will be used to support coverage for that local
area, including compensation for reviews and news items. This "side-bar"
ad program is on a trial basis, and may be expanded discontinued,
re-priced or redesigned as we test the reaction to the new program.
I certainly will be interested in any comments of suggestions.
