CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE #031201 - Monday, December 1, 2003
Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret News
If it's anything
to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!
This is a MONDAY Issue
of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE which includes cabaret listings for around
the world, and also includes information on all the banner ads running
on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. The MID-WEEK issue, normally
sent on Thursdays, includes more news, breaking stories and notes,
news on shows offering discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
I'm back!
OK, I really wasn't away anywhere, except away from my computer. After
sending out the MID-WEEK issue on Wednesday last, I took a few days
off - except for checking my e-mail each day, and posting a few important
items on the website. But most of the time I spent doing non-computer
things. On Thursday I had a fantastic Thanksgiving Dinner at REGENTS
(317 East 53rd Street, NYC - 212-593-3091 - http://www.RegentsClub.com)
- one of the finest I've had in years! The past few years I had gone
to a neighborhood diner for the annual feast, spending $19.95 for
soggy stuffing, gummy sweet potatoes, watery mashed potatoes, and
deli-cut turkey and chicken gravy. What a difference a few dollars
makes - the REGENTS dinner cost $25. I've already made plans on having
Christmas dinner here (REGENTS never closes). After dinner I took
a long walk around the area and then headed back home for a quiet,
restful evening.
Friday, ignoring
all my own warnings, I was inspired to go to MACY'S Herald Square
for some shopping! As predicted, the store was packed. If you want
to get into the holiday spirit, just go shopping. I ended my day with
my first Holiday Show of the season, at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West
46th Street, NYC - 1-212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/)
for the Karen Mack-Michael Holland show "Gasholy Night!" What fun!
Saturday
I worked on getting the new banners ready for the website, then did
my grocery shopping then went into town for Page Sampson's "Braving
the Elements" show at 4:00 pm at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street,
NYC - 1-212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/)
and then, after dinner, catching Debbie Antola's tribute to Rosemary
Clooney at 7:00 pm, also at DON'T TELL MAMA.
I pulled
out all the stops on Sunday. First on the schedule was Janet Seidel's
brunch show back at REGENTS at 2:00 pm. I had heard so much about
this delightful jazz star from Australia, but I was still not prepared
for this awesome performance. I have never been so thrilled by a performer
I had not seen before since I saw Barb Jungr at JOE'S PUB several
months ago. This lady is amazing - such pure clean vocals!
Next was
Eric Pickering's amazing burlesque-style "Ode to Attention Seekers"
show at 5:00 pm at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street,
NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/).
This show simply must return soon! Then at 7:00 I was at THE WEST
BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909)
for the second TEDDYCARE show hosted by Ruby Rims. One of the performers
was the young Australian Shaun Rennie - I was planning to see his
show at DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (342 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-265-8133
- http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/)
at 8:45 pm. With just the two-song sample he performed at the show,
I knew I had made the right plan. Unfortunately, by the time I got
to DANNY'S, the show was already underway, and I missed several numbers.
I hope to get back there on Tuesday, December 2nd at 9:15 pm.
PARTY - SHOW - FREE CD!
Be sure to
catch Pam Tate's CD release show at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61
Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/)
this Tuesday night, December 2nd at 7:00 pm. Actually, get there at
6:15 pm and join the pre-show reception. Best of all, for your $15
cover, you get to join the pre-show, enjoy the full show, and go home
with a free CD! I got my advance copy in the mail on Saturday afternoon
and this is a cabaret CD you will want to own! The show - and pre-show
reception is repeated on Tuesday, the 9th - same time, same place.

I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR
MORE NEWS
I get plenty
of show listings sent me - far more than I can possibly use - it is
really difficult trying to choose which ones to run, which ones to
set aside. Sometimes the item itself makes this choice - incomplete
information or just a scan of a flier, neither of which is useful
to me. I would love to have more items from outside NYC, especially
NEWS items - new venues opening, benefits, CD Releases, celebrations,
new pianos, etc. Add a website link if available. I have news ready
to print about two new cabaret venues - already in operation - but
one contains no reservation phone number or cover information, and
the other did not include the exact street address.
A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS
REMEMBER:
Each weekly issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter includes
a rundown of all the banner advertisers on the website - and these
items will be repeated as long as the banner is running.

CALIFORNIA HERE I COME!
All the arrangements

arriving in the San Francisco just after noon. I plan to write the
MONDAY December 7th issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE in flight and
e-mail it when I arrive at my hotel.

many more months to go before the next membership year.
