Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Source of Cabaret News

If it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!

Cabaret critics and reviewers are a lot like cabaret performers - while we compete with each other for an audience, we remain friends and support each other. Thus, when Barbara & Scott Siegel asked me to pass along the following statement, I promptly agreed.

Here is a statement from Barbara and Scott Siegel:

"We will no longer be writing for Back Stage. After an unusually contentious Bistro Award process this year, Sherry Eaker called to say that she was uncomfortable working with us. We think it's unfortunate that she gave us no warning of her discomfort, and we regret that she did not give us the opportunity to discuss and resolve this issue with her, despite our request for a meeting. She apparently thinks that eliminating us from the column rotation is the way to solve the problem.

We want the community to know that Sherry's decision will have no bearing on our commitment to cabaret. We will not only continue writing our weekly Cabaret Notes column at Theatermania.com, we will expand it to twice weekly with new columns appearing every week on Tuesday and Friday, beginning April 26th. We will also now provide weekly reviews to our Two of Clubs column at Cabaret Hotline Online in our capacity as Chief New York Reviewers. In addition, we will continue covering cabaret on our weekly radio broadcasts, which are heard on approximately 100 stations across the U.S. And, of course, we will continue to pursue other ways in which to bring more attention to cabaret and its performers."

I personally am happy to see that Barbara & Scott continue in their commitment to cabaret, and that their reviews and comments will receive even more circulation than before via the internet. Perhaps my friendship with this delightful NYC couple is so strong because I see them so often in the clubs. There are not enough cabaret reviewers around as it is, and Barb & Scott's dedication and constant attendance at cabaret shows is an encouragement to all. And Scott's inclusion of so many cabaret performers in his Town Hall series "Broadway by the Year" has introduced a wider audience to the talent seen in cabaret.

You might want to express your thoughts on this major change in the Bistro Bits column to the folks at BACK STAGE magazine, so I include the addresses of the Publisher, Steve Elish, as well as Editor-in-Chief Sherry Eaker. I am sure that Barbara & Scott would appreciate a copy of your comments as well, so I include both their mailing and e-mail addresses.
