HERE & THERE PART 1 - THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE WORLD OF CABARET
I went way over my word limit in putting together today's issue and am designing a solution to this - see article in PART 2 of HERE & THERE. But I do have a few "news" items to include (I actually write this section last).
MAC ANNOUNCES SHOW HOST AND HONORARY AWARDEES FOR 2012
MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) is proud to present THE 26TH ANNUAL MAC AWARDS: The Year Of The Songwriter at BB KING'S BLUES CLUB (237 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-997-4144 - ) on Thursday March 29th at 7:30 pm (Doors open at 6:00 pm). ANOTHER REMINDER ABOUT "EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN"
I didn't receive a press release from David Kenney this week since his radio show EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN, broadcast over WBAI 99.5 FM and on the Internet at http://www.wbai.org/ from 9:00 to 11:00 pm on Sundays because this Sunday's show was preempted by a fundraiser for the station. WBAI is a "listener supported" radio station - commercial free. Each program needs to help support the station, and that's the reason why every several weeks, EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN has a fund raiser - as they did last Sunday. And last Sunday, probably because of the SUPERBOWL, less than $1,000 was raised. It's not too late to send your support, though. If David's show (a blend of big-band jazz, swing, standards, showtunes, contemporary cabaret and celebrity interviews) is important to you, please go to David's website - http://www.oldisnew.org/ for instructions on sending in a donation. You can listen to past shows at any time by going to the WBAI Archives at http://www.archive.wbai.org/ . Now, more than ever, EOINA needs your support.
The CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE LISTINGS PAGES - have been updated to include all the VALENTINE'S DAY shows for which we have received press releases. If you have a show on February 14th and your show is not listed, please sent me a release immediately.

HERE & THERE PART 2 - PICKS, COMMENTS, THOUGHTS & TRIVIA
I had an item already written for this section, but we went a bit long today so I am saving it for Saturday's MEMBERS ONLY ISSUE - and hopefully have space next week to include it in a regular issue. Quite coincidentally, the item as about "editing"!
The article I had already written for Saturday's issue about my own personal "10 Pet Peeves" (taking a cue from Sue Matsuki's columns) will also be in the MEMBERS ONLY issue this week. It's not too late to join as a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and receive these MEMBERS ONLY issues as a bonus. Memberships (which expire on July 5th, 2012) cost as low as $10 - and include a membership card that entitles you to hundreds of dollars of show discounts a year - and supports the continuation of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. Currently we have nearly 350 supporting members at all levels.
My "PICK'S" section (below) has undergone another change. Instead of trying to list as many shows as possible, I have picked just a few special ones to point out. These listings are NOT the only great shows in the next few days, but shows that stand out from the pack - in my opinion.
SOME OF "STU'S CABARET PICKS" FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS
These are shows I would love to go to if I had the time, the money and lived in the performance city (and ones that have sent me press releases for the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website). It is by no means "definitive" so don't overlook other great shows listed for these dates on the website - CLICK HERE.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10th:
DON'T MISS THIS ONE: Songstress Sandy Bainum returns to the New York cabaret stage to debut her newest show entitled "Sandy Bainum: Something to Sing About" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) at 7:00 pm. The performance is a celebration of positivity, featuring songs that are engaging, entertaining, and ultimately uplifting. The brilliance of her vocals are matched by her stunning beauty and witty patter.
I saw this show last Friday and it is a real gem - with direction by Bruce Kimmel and amazing arrangements by Lanny Meyers. Ms. Bainum (along with her most talented team) has created one of the finest cabaret shows ever presented, and it should not be missed!
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11th:
Karen Mack & Michael Holland return with their very popular award-winning "Gashole Hole-O-Matic 2011" All Request Show to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Saturdays, February 11th, 18th & 25th at 8:00 pm. This is the show where the audience gets to pick the song list from hundreds available. Also featured are more road stories, ridiculous prizes, more mash-ups, more prizes, lots more new music, more insanity and custom cocktails.
There is a terrific review of this show, written by CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE's Critic a Large, Mona Finston, on the website - CLICK HERE
OUT OF TOWN PICK: After a sell-out premiere in January Samora Squid & Bridget Bridge, Circus Horrificus, return to THE BUTTERFLY CLUB (204 Bank Street, South Melbourne, VIC, AUS - 03 96902000) on Friday & Saturday, January 10th & 11th at 7:00 pm. In the mountains of Tasmania, lurks one of the world's most truly idiotic clown troupes, Circus Horrificus. Squid & Bridge are renowned for their extreme slapstick & stunt-based physical-comedy skits that truly test the durability of this unique pair of twits' bodies.
THIS TYPE OF SHOW IS WHY I MIGHT RETIRE TO MELBOURNE (if I ever do retire)!
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12th:
Janice Hall, internationally renowned opera singer and 2011 Bistro Award winner, is presenting her new show, "I'd Rather Be Doing This ...", at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for three performances, Sunday, February 12th at 4:00 pm; Monday, March 5th at 7:00 pm; and Wednesday, April 18th at 9:30 pm. In the show Janice takes the audience on a tour of her favorite things, places, and composers, presenting fresh and imaginative renditions of songs that range from the sophistication of Cole Porter and Cy Coleman to the raw emotion of Piaf's "L'Accordeoniste" and the taut drama of Kurt Weill.
I shall always remember Janice's debut show a few years ago - stunning vocals and an exquisite performance. Her shows since continually captivate me!
Award-winning Australian performer Kim Smith will reprise his acclaimed show "Misfit" at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Sunday, February 12th at 9:30 pm. The show is directed by Christian Coulson, with piano accompaniment by Steven Ray Watkins with Sam Nedel on upright bass. Fitting in isn't easy in this saccharine world of unwavering morals and processed celebrity -- but why try? Kim will take you by the hand and lead you through ruins of disfigured pop and glimmering period treasures, as he mischievously proves that misfits have more fun.
This handsome young man is blessed with hypnotic charm - he will mesmerize you, I promise. One of the very best of the new generation of cabaret performers today.
