HERE & THERE - PART I
Thing got a little out of hand, news-wise this morning with a flood of new January event press releases pouring in since Monday, including a release received for a 2-week run that began yesterday! I thought on Monday that I was finished with news for January, but some folks seem to wait until the last minute to send in their news. Hopefully, this issue covers all the news releases received to date for events through February 9th with a few exceptions (like shows that happen every week or two weeks with different guest performers, etc.)
I still have received only two MARCH 2010 club schedules from BIRDLAND and THE BUTTERFLY CLUB. Both these clubs send rather detailed schedules, so I can often simply use the schedule's information if no press release is received from the actual performer. But all clubs depend on the performer to supply information in a timely manner on their individual shows to be included. Funny thing: this type of promotion is free - provided to the press free by the venue, and printed in these issues and on my website at no charge. Yet too many performers fail to realize the power of promotion, don't get their information out in time, and then later complain that they con't seem to increase their following.
Her real name is Patti Pierrepont, but everyone in town knows her as "Pittsburgh Patti", a regular audience member in NYC on the cabaret, piano bar and open mic circuits. A while back she moved to Florida, and now Chris Barrett (she was his most loyal fan) reports that Patti is in a nursing home in Florida, facing serious spinal surgery. He notes: "A call from any of her friends will go a long way to raise her spirits. Patty was always ready to help anyone and now she needs your thoughts & prayers." I don't have the number, but I know her friends all do. A little side note: Patti was not a wealthy woman, yet whenever Chris (who also moved to FL) was in NYC, she would send me some money to run a small side-bar ad on behalf of his show!
It's never too late to join as a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - for just $20 you can become a SILVER member through July 5, 2010! Show discounts, advertising rebates & discounts, a free CD Sale Page, and a host of other benefits await you. Your membership donations help us keep this operation going all year long. Just click on the JOIN HERE button at the top of every page on the website ( http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/Membership.shtml ) for details.
There are some fantastic cabaret events coming up in the next week to 10 days - I hope that many of you are taking advantage of the opportunities to see some of the finest of cabaret. And, I hope to see many of my NYC area subscribers at the 2010 NY NIGHTLIFE AWARDS show on Monday, March 25th at 7:00 pm at THE TOWN HALL. This awards show is special in many ways, and two very important ones. First, the winners are chosen by journalists and critics, each one making nominations and later voting on their choices in their specialty fields of cabaret, jazz & comedy. And second, the winners go on stage to accept their award with a performance not a speech! In addition, many other stars from cabaret, jazz and comedy take the stage to make the award presentations and/or perform as part of the show. It is a "must see" for any fan of live entertainment. Tickets are still available - see details at the top of this issue, in the listings below under January 25th and on the website. (I am proud to once again have served as one of the voters in the cabaret division)
More HERE & THERE items appear at the bottom of this issue - including any last minute news items that come in just before we "go to press" and more comments and commentary on the art and artists of cabaret. And even more news can be found on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG http://cabarethotlineonline.blogspot.com/

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II
I had a little article I was going to include here, but, because of the size of the rest of the issue, it was far too long to include today. I'll try to fit it in on Monday - providing not too many January event releases arrive before then.
MORE ABOUT MARCH IS CABARET MONTH: If you are presenting a cabaret show or event during the month of March, 2010, our MARCH IS CABARET MONTH program gives you a chance for extra promotion of your event: a second listing of your show on the MARCH IS CABARET MONTH website!
All shows presented in March that include the phrase "MARCH IS CABARET MONTH" in their release materials will be included on the special website - and the events on that side are listed by geographical area so folks in various parts of the universe that visit the website can easily find an event playing nearby. All event listings will appear as usual on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website in the DIARY/DATEBOOK and in the newsletter as well.
There is no charge to have your item appear in the newsletter or on both websites. Just send in your release - and remember, a flier is not a press release. Items received with incomplete information cannot be used. We need the information in a format that we can "cut & paste" for use in the newsletter and on the website. This not only saves a lot of retyping, it also means fewer errors, miss-spelled names and garbled phone numbers. (Please, no PDF files - no imbedded photos - txt or doc releases only.)
And if your March event news item gets to me by February 20th we will include your event in a special MARCH IS CABARET MONTH press release going out to all cabaret news journalists and publications on our list. You include the phrase MARCH IS CABARET MONTH in your release and we'll include your info in ours!
