CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE #091206 - Monday, December 21, 2009
Since 1990 Your First, Best and Only Complete Source of Cabaret and Nightlife News

NOW IN Our 21st Year SPREADING THE NEWS OF CABARET!
COVERING CABARET & NIGHTLIFE ON THE INTERNET SINCE 1997!

If it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!

These newsletters are a FREE service to promote the art and artists and entertainers of nightlife & cabaret.

SPECIAL NOTE TO SUBSCRIBERS

Please note that with the Christmas & New Year's Holidays both falling on Friday, there will be just one issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for the weeks of December 20th & 27th. The Monday issues on the 21st & 28th will be "double issues" covering all the news we can fit, plus all the shows that are giving discounts to members and the events and items running ads on the website. There will be NO MEMBERS' ONLY issues on Christmas day, Friday, December 25th. Please keep this information in mind when submitting news items.

HERE & THERE - PART I

A nice refreshing snow fell on NYC over the weekend, putting everyone (at least the ones that didn't have to shovel it) in a Holiday Mood. There was some disruption of traffic and a few show cancellations, but for the most part discomfort was confined to icy sidewalks, slushy crosswalks and occasional uncrossable snowbanks caused by the plows that pretty much had everything cleared up by dark.

I actually braved the elements on Sunday by going to Susan Winter's show at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM at 7:00 pm - most of the cabaret rooms in town are within a block of either a bus route or subway station, so getting around is pretty easy as long as you don't use a car or hire a cab. I even went out to Queens after Susan's show to have a late supper with my pal Daniel at one of the many very inexpensive Columbian restaurants in Jackson Heights. And the return trip featured perfect timing - the 14th Street bus rolled up minutes after I exited the Sixth Avenue subway station and I was back home in less than 40 minutes!

Two more folks need your thoughts and prayers right now - we just heard that cabaret favorite and former club owner Judy Kreston is seriously ill - I don't have more details than that, and I also hear that Claiborne Cary, who moved to California last year, is ailing as well. Since there won't be another regular issue for a full week, you might want to check the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MESSAGE BOARD on the website, or the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG for updates that I might receive. If you follow me on TWITTER at I will alert you to any blog or message board updates.

Looks like our last CABARET FOR SENIORS newsletter will go out this Saturday, December 26th. We never received the hoped-for 50 members to make the program worthwhile. So on the 26th the special section on the website will be deleted and the bi-weekly special newsletter with special deals and events for cabaret fans over 65 discontinued. One problem seemed to be the large number of members who didn't want to admit they are over 65.

Several more sections will be taken off the web on Saturday, the 26th: The HOLIDAY CABARET page, listing all holiday themed shows and events will come down, as well as the special HOLIDAY THEMED CD page. The special page listing all the NEW YEAR'S EVE cabaret events around the world will remain up another week.

Looking for a last minute holiday gift? How about a cabaret CD? Check out the special CD SALE section of our website, where members can promote and sell their CDs - just click on the button marked CABARET CDs at the top of every page on the website.

More HERE & THERE items appear at the bottom of this issue - including any last minute news items that come in just before we "go to press" and more comments and commentary on the art and artists of cabaret. And even more news can be found on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG

ADELE ZANE RELEASES THIRD CD "A STRANGER IN TOWN"

Adele Zane's newest CD, "A Stranger in Town" is probably the perfect companion to your broken heart or to the heart you've just broken. For singer/songwriter Zane's third CD she has enlisted the aid of virtuoso guitarist Andrew Green as both collaborator and arranger. More than willing to blur the boundaries between jazz, rock, pop and country, the duo have succeeded in creating a highly polished and well thought out merger of the genres. Todd Isler on hadgini, Jorge Roeder on bass and Jordan Perlson on drums round out a stellar selection of backing musicians. Jim Clouse makes a special guest appearance on drums and Hamcrest Riverton hands in a memorable cameo on Zane's original, Girl at the Bar. The CD is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/adele3

In 1966, he drummed alongside Rashied Ali in the John Coltrane Quintet, and international recognition came with his tenure in the Charles Lloyd Quartet, one of the first jazz groups to receive cross-over attention. MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II

If you look at the number of banners on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website this week, you will see why we are having a special sale on banners - an additional 10% discount (does not apply to side-bar ads). By year's end, unless new orders come in, there will be just 3 banners running. Now is the perfect time to advertise your show - or your website or CD. And with the MAC award preliminary ballot voting starting soon, if you are doing a repeat of your 2009 show for consideration, you will want to attract as large an audience as possible. MAC members won't vote for shows they have not seen, and if you don't make "the cut" on the preliminary ballot because not enough MAC members saw your show, you will be out of the running. For information about banner advertising, click on the button marked ADVERTISING INFO at the top of every page on the website - then write me at stuhamstra@svhamstra.com for an exact quote applying all discounts.

SPECIAL TO CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERS: We announced a special deal on SIDEBAR ads just for members in Friday's MEMBERS' ONLY newsletter. Check it out or write for information.

All e-mail sent to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE ends up in the same mailbox: stuhamstra@svhamstra.com - but e-mail sent to some of my other addresses (at yahoo.com, gmail.com, mac.com, me.com) have to be forwarded. This is done automatically, but occasionally I find items in those other mailboxes that never get sent on. I have the other addresses so that I can send items to yahoo & google groups, but to assure I receive your mail, please only use the stuhamstra@svhamstra.com address.

With this issue we have included all news items for events through January 17th, 2010, from releases received. If your news event is before that date and hasn't been included in this newsletter or previous newsletters, it just might be that we didn't receive complete information, or, even worse, only received a flier instead of a press release. We do not accept fliers, e-invites and similar items as press releases. We need the information in a format that we can "cut & paste" for use in the newsletter and on the website. This not only saves a lot of retyping, it also means fewer errors (especially miss-spelled names and garbled phone numbers). A FLIER IS NOT A PRESS RELEASE (and please, no PDF files - txt or doc releases only). Thanks.

Please note again that with the Christmas & New Year's Holidays both falling on Friday, there will be just one issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for the weeks of December 20th & 27th.

Save the date: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 - the 3rd Annual MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA! We have the date - now we need to choose the acts, get some sponsors and start selling tickets.

You can see all the events that have already appeared in previous newsletters on the website in the DIARY/DATEBOOK section (click on the button at the top of every page so labeled). Look for more news on the blog .

And that's just about the way it was. Until Monday, December 28th then.

Thanks for your support of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
