HERE & THERE - PART I
We're having a bit of a financial squeeze right now (as are many of you, I know) and anyone wishing to join, order a banner, or make a donation, please contact me at stuhamstra@svhamstra.com today. We have less than $300 in anticipated income before the end of the year, with less than $100 in the bank. Thanks in advance for your help. Its never too late to join as a member, by PayPal or check - please remember, all checks should be made out simply to STU HAMSTRA and mailed to 676A Ninth Avenue #120, New York, NY 10036.
I completely forgot to include in last Friday's newsletter that, with the Christmas & New Year's Holidays both falling on Friday, we will cut back to just one issue per week for the weeks of December 20th & 27th. The Monday issues on the 21st & 28th will be "double issues" covering all the news we can fit, plus all the shows that are giving discounts to members and the events and items running ads on the website. Plus, there will be NO MEMBERS' ONLY issues on Christmas day, Friday, December 25th. There will be a CABARET FOR SENIORS newsletter on Saturday, the 26th. Also, the MEMBERS' ONLY issue that would normally be sent on Friday, January 1st, will be sent instead on Saturday, the 2nd. Please keep this information in mind when submitting news items.
This just in: Jim VanSlyke announced last week at the LAURIE BEECHMAN Holiday Party that Neil Sedaka will be a special guest, and will introduce Jim at his show at FEINSTEIN'S tonight, Monday the 14th - see details in listings below.
More great news: Gretchen Reinhagen's SPECIAL KAYE show has been extended at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM for one more performance in December on Saturday, December 19th at 5:00 pm. This fantastic show deserves a long run. If you haven't seen it yet, here's your chance - see details in listings below.
UPDATE ON SAMMY GOLDSTEIN: We're a bit late in reporting on the condition of Sammy Goldstein, who recently had open heart surgery, because there were a few complications resulting in an extra 12-day stay in ICU. Sammy expected to be released from the hospital on Friday, the 11th. All in all, he has been hospitalized for three weeks and five days. He's scheduled to go back to Princess Cruises for his February 5th contract, and meantime will be regaining his strength at home (and doing a lot of practicing on the piano, I'm sure). He's been instructed to do a lot of walking, so you may find him wandering around his apartment in the Theater District, so give him a hello.
A memorial service for Earl Wentz, creator of the American Composer Series, will be held in New York on Saturday, December 19th at 2:00 pm at JOHN STREET UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (44 John Street, NYC). The composer, performer, arranger, and noted teacher of vocal performance and technique passed away at his home in Charlotte, NC on Sunday, November 15, 2009, following an extended illness. Wentz had been the organist and choirmaster at John Street Methodist Church in New York since 1993. The Rev. Jason Radmacher of John St. Church will preside. The one-hour recording of Wentz’s 1989 Requiem, featuring full orchestra, 30-voice choir, and four prominent New York soloists will be played at the funeral service, which is open to the public.
Also, Earl's Christmas CD is available at http://www.sixpenceinc.com/ChristmasCD.html
Please take note that the free CD release show previously announced for Joanne Mosca's debut CD entitled "Keep on Going" has been moved to the new BEST BUY (1 Union Square South @ 14th Street, NYC) on Wednesday. December 16th from 4:00-5:00 pm. Details in the listings below.
LAST CALL FOR CABARET FOR SENIORS: A few months ago we began offering a new service for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members over 65. The program includes a special newsletter, every other week, listing special cabaret offers, special news and tips and tricks for seniors. Also included was an extra year extension on their membership - current 2009-2010 members who joined would receive a 2010-2011 membership free. However, to make the program worthwhile, we needed at least 50 members to join, but to date less than 35 members have chosen to take advantage of the program. So, unless we reach that goal by December 31, 2009, the program will be discontinued. Those already in the program as of yesterday (December 13th) will have their membership extended as promised even if the rest of the program is discontinued. Check out the home page at the home page for a link to details on how to become a member of CABARET FOR SENIORS.
Looking for a CD to present as a holiday gift? Check out our special HOLIDAY CD page displaying CDs with a Holiday theme to run through December 31st, as well as the CD SALE section of our website, where members can promote and sell their CDs - just click on the button marked CABARET CDs at the top of every page on the website. There is a link to the HOLIDAY CD page on the home page of the website.
More HERE & THERE items appear at the bottom of this issue - including any last minute news items that come in just before we "go to press" and more comments and commentary on the art and artists of cabaret. And even more news can be found on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG

ADELE ZANE RELEASES THIRD CD "A STRANGER IN TOWN"
Adele Zane's newest CD, "A Stranger in Town" is probably the perfect companion to your broken heart or to the heart you've just broken. For singer/songwriter Zane's third CD she has enlisted the aid of virtuoso guitarist Andrew Green as both collaborator and arranger. More than willing to blur the boundaries between jazz, rock, pop and country, the duo have succeeded in creating a highly polished and well thought out merger of the genres. Todd Isler on hadgini, Jorge Roeder on bass and Jordan Perlson on drums round out a stellar selection of backing musicians. We do not accept fliers, e-invites and similar items as press releases. We need the information in a format that we can "cut & paste" for use in the newsletter and on the website.
