TODAY'S TOP CABARET STORY

NYC: JAMES FRADRICH MEMORIAL CONCERT NOVEMBER 15th

Singer/producer Kevin McMullan is presenting a very special event on Sunday, November 15th at 3:00 pm at ST. MALACHY'S CHURCH ACTORS' CHAPEL (239 West 49th Street, NYC) celebrating the life, music and shows of award-winning composer, concert pianist and orchestrator James Fradrich, Kevin's companion of 27 years, who passed away in August. The concert will include songs composed by Jim, rarely or never before performed, from "North Atlantic", "The Duchess of Fifth Avenue" and an untitled musical about a certain girl detective. Also included are a few of his quirky art songs and two original compositions for piano, cello and flute as well as a few old chestnuts. Performing in the concert are Candy Benge, Raissa Katona Bennett, Susan Bigelow, Bruce Brown, Lori Tan Chinn, Michael Colby, Erin Cronican, Gini Dustin, Lewis Hardee, Dennis Hearne, Roxanne Kramer, Rob Langeder, Mark Manley, Kevin McMullan, Michael Murphy, Miles Phillips, Julie Reyburn, Sarah Rice, Father John Sheehan, Richard Skipper, Marian Steiner, K.T. Sullivan, Ted Williams, Walter Willison and others TBA. Musical Directors are Mark Janas (supervising), Paul Chamlin, Noel Katz, Rich Siegel and James Stenborg.

Jim Fradrich began as an award-winning child prodigy concert pianist as both soloist and with several symphonies in the midwest and became a prominent figure on the off-Broadway musical scene during the '70s and '80s as composer for "North Atlantic" (book/lyrics by Michael Colby and winner of the 1977 Show Business award for outstanding musical score), musical dir./orchestrator for the long-running "Boy Meets Boy" (music/lyrics by Bill Solly), "Gift of the Magi", at Players Theatre, "Carnival" at ELT, and a host of others.

Jim musical directed most standard musicals in stock and regionally including "The King and I", "Oklahoma", "Annie Get Your Gun", "Kiss Me Kate", "The Fantasticks", "Nunsense", "My Fair Lady", and "Chicago." He was a frequent assistant to legendary orchestrator William D. Brohn on Broadway & off for such shows as "Miss Saigon", "Secret Garden", "Jerome Robbins Broadway", "A Portrait of Jenny", "Surf City" and "Curtains." He won an award for outstanding musical score for his children's musical "The Musicians of Bremen" and was formerly chief archivist/concert librarian for Rodgers and Hammerstein Concert Library. Jim also established the chamber trio White Tie and Tails for piano, cello and flute and toured extensively with the First Gilbert and Sullivan Quartet.

Admission is free.

SPECIAL ADVANCE NOTE TO SUBSCRIBERS

There will be no issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE NEWSLETTER - a special "Thanksgiving" issue will be sent out instead. Wishing all a Happy Holiday! Note that many cabaret rooms and piano bars may be closed on this day to permit their employees to attend traditional family gatherings. Be sure to phone ahead if planning to visit any venue.

HERE & THERE - PART I

I had to do some "battery recharging" for the past few days - as well as catching up on some projects - so I haven't been "out & about" for the past several days (at least when it comes to cabaret). Good thing is that I didn't fall further behind in my reviews (see HERE & THERE - PART II below) but the bad part is that I missed out on some shows I really wanted to see. I still have about 120 e-mails to answer (or deal with - some don't require an answer, just action), but I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish.

Ticket sales to our CDs FOR THE HOLIDAYS PARTY have been very slow - and that concerns me very much. Cover charge is the lowest in the history of all our CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE special events - $15 with a $5 discount for 2009-2010 members and a $10 discounts for members of CABARET FOR SENIORS. I hope that more of my good friends who have supported these events in the past will sign up for tickets this weekend - if you can't make the show, why not donate the cost of one or two tickets? We will donate them to some of the very many folks who are truly financially strapped this year we have, (as a result of donations) already given 48 free memberships for 2009-2010 - including 5 just this past week.

We now have two SPONSORS for our CDs FOR THE HOLIDAYS party (see lead item above) are looking for additional SPONSORS to help cover production and promotion costs. This will allow us to have all our anticipated expenses (room charges, fliers, etc.) covered before the show, so we can charge the lowest possible cover charge and even be relieved of the pressure of selling every possible seat in order to keep from losing money (if you are a performer, you know the feeling). If you would like to be a sponsor (just $100 - and you get one free ticket to the show) just go to the website and click on any one of the side-bar banners promoting the show - there is a link to our sponsor PayPal page - http://www.svhamstra.com/thankyou1sponsor.shtml

Sponsors and their website URLs will be listed in all promotional announcements for the show, including the opening page of the website, the twice-weekly newsletter, the MEMBERS ONLY newsletter, the new CABARET FOR SENIORS newsletter and also on the program for the show. You may purchase more than one sponsorship. Any questions? Drop me a line.

Looking for a one-stop shopping place to purchase a cabaret CD for Holiday giving? Its not too early to shop. Members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE have CDs for sale on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website at http://www.svhamstra.com/MemberCDSales2009.shtml and we are adding more each week.

Want to get in the Holiday spirit early? There is a great selection of Holiday-themed CD on the website at http://www.svhamstra.com/CDChristmas2009.shtml - click on a CD's cover to find a website where it may be purchased. Listing on this page is FREE - there's a link on the page to apply.

Save the date: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 - the 3rd Annual MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA! We have the date - now we need to choose the acts, get some sponsors and start selling tickets.

ADELE ZANE RELEASES THIRD CD - "A STRANGER IN TOWN"

Adele Zane's newest CD, "A Stranger in Town" is probably the perfect companion to your broken heart or to the heart you've just broken. For singer/songwriter Zane's third CD she has enlisted the aid of virtuoso guitarist Andrew Green as both collaborator and arranger. More than willing to blur the boundaries between jazz, rock, pop and country, the duo have succeeded in creating a highly polished and well thought out merger of the genres. A Stranger in Town expresses it's own distinctive perspective on heartbreak, emancipation, shattered illusions and hopefulness in its refreshing re-imaginings of well-known and forgotten gems. Zane is ably assisted by Green on guitar and electric bass and is given the space to show off her multi-octave range and emotional depth. Todd Isler on hadgini, Jorge Roeder on bass and Jordan Perlson on drums round out a stellar selection of backing musicians. Jim Clouse makes a special guest appearance on drums and Hamcrest Riverton hands in a memorable cameo on Zane's original, Girl at the Bar. The CD is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/adele3 .

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II

Starting with this issue, reviews of cabaret shows & events seen will now be available on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website ( http://www.svhamstra.com/ ) rather than in the newsletter - after they appear on the website we will announce their location, with a comment or two starting in Monday's issue.

With this issue we have covered all the appropriate events for which we have received press releases (as of yesterday) through November 26th - Thanksgiving. In the Monday issue we plan to complete our coverage of all November events, and add new items for December. You can see all the events that have already appeared in previous newsletters on the website in the DIARY/DATEBOOK section (click on the button at the top of every page so labeled).

Tomorrow we will send out our weekly MEMBERS ONLY newsletter and on Saturday, all CABARET FOR SENIORS members will receive a special newsletter - currently sent semi-weekly. If you haven't joined the 360 members who support this effort, why not do so today - just click on the button marked JOIN HERE at the top of every page on the website.

OVER 65? Special discounts on memberships and other items and events are available for folks who are over 65 and join CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. Just send an e-mail to stuhamstra@svhamstra.com with the words OVER 65 in the subject line for information. It is a FREE program to all 2009-2010 members.

Several months ago someone gifted my pal Daniel with the DVD of the show IN THE HEIGHTS, currently playing on Broadway. He has been talking about it ever since. He even purchased the cast album as well. Now a friend of his, who has a friend in the cast and heard about Daniel's excitement over the show, gifted him with 2 tickets to the show for tonight. And, since I have invited him to be my guest at so many cabaret shows, he is returning the favor by inviting me to join him tonight at the RICHARD ROGERS THEATRE. At least this solves a dilemma for me - there are several terrific cabaret shows tonight, all starring terrific friends of mine, and I knew I would have a problem choosing which to attend.

ONE MORE REMINDER: There will be no issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE NEWSLETTER - a special "Thanksgiving" issue will be sent out instead. Wishing all a Happy Holiday! Note that many cabaret rooms and piano bars may be closed on this day to permit their employees to attend traditional family gatherings. Be sure to phone ahead if planning to visit any venue.

This issue contains cabaret listings sent in directly to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE by performers or their publicists. Look for more news on the blog (http://cabarethotlineonline.blogspot.com/ ) and in Monday's newsletter. See a show or two this week! Visit our websites! Join as a member! Sign up on TWITTER!! Run a banner or sidebar ad! Now - more than ever - cabaret (and CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE) needs your support.

I have a lot more to tell you about - but no more room/time to tell it.

And that's just about the way it was. Until Monday then.

Thanks for your support of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.

Hugs & Stuff,

STU
