HERE & THERE - PART I

This is sort of a "catch up" issue. We have been trying our best to accomplish two goals: keep our newsletter listings at least two week - and hopefully three weeks - ahead, while keeping the issues less than 10,000 words. The two goals have become almost impossible to reach. In this issue we have tried to cover all items through November 22nd, but we have been forced to skip a few items on the 21st & 22nd, which will be included in Thursday's issue.

We are looking for SPONSORS for our CDs FOR THE HOLIDAYS party -to cover production and promotion costs. This will allow us to have all our anticipated expenses (room charges, fliers, etc.) covered before the show, so we can charge the lowest possible cover charge and even be relieved of the pressure of selling every possible seat in order to keep from losing money (if you are a performer, you know the feeling).

If you would like to be a sponsor (just $100 - and you get one free ticket to the show) just go to the website and click on any one of the side-bar banners promoting the show - there is a link to our sponsor PayPal page - http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/thankyou1sponsor.shtml

Sponsors and their website URLs will be listed in all promotional announcements for the show, including the opening page of the website, the twice-weekly newsletter, the MEMBERS ONLY newsletter, the new CABARET FOR SENIORS newsletter and also on the program for the show. You may purchase more than one sponsorship. Any questions? Drop me a line.

Scott Siegle has announced additions to cast of BROADWAY UNPLUGGED, which takes place on Monday, November 16th at THE TOWN HALL (see listings below). New additions are John Easterlin, who won two Grammy Awards this year, as well as Nightlife Award winner David Colbert, and Broadway stars Tony Yazbeck and Janet Metz.

Want to get in the Holiday spirit early? There is a great selection of Holiday-themed CD on the website at http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/CDChristmas2009.shtml - click on a CD's cover to find a website where it may be purchased. Listing on this page is FREE - there's a link on the page to apply.

Congratulations to the songwriting team of Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich have picked up the 2009 Fred Ebb Award, the songwriting laurel that comes with a $50,000 cash prize. Funded by royalties from the catalog of late lyricist Ebb ("Cabaret," "Chicago," "Kiss of the Spider Woman"), the Fred Ebb Foundation launched the award in 2005 to honor a promising lyricist, composer or songwriting team that has not yet hit the commercial big-time.

I dropped in on the MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) BAZAAR at DON'T TELL MAMA yesterday afternoon, and was happy to see so many folks - and not just MAC members - perusing the sale and auction tables, and making purchases. Events like this are great places to network in addition to supporting a good cause. I'm only sorry I couldn't stay longer than a few minutes, rather than the 30-40 minutes I planned. I made the error of travelling by bus -it was such a terrific day I didn't want to spend a minute underground in the subway. But, instead of taking me a mere 45-50 minutes, it took me nearly an hour and 45 minutes to get to the club. Phase one - crosstown on the #14 bus was a breeze. But uptown on the #10, in addition to a 20-minute wait to get on the bus, we had to load and unload 2 wheelchair passengers enroute, and construction in the area of 41st street narrowed the avenue to 2 lanes.

Save the date: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 - the 3rd Annual MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA! We have the date - now we need to choose the acts, get some sponsors and start selling tickets.

ADELE ZANE RELEASES THIRD CD - "A STRANGER IN TOWN"

Adele Zane's newest CD, "A Stranger in Town" is probably the perfect companion to your broken heart or to the heart you've just broken. For singer/songwriter Zane's third CD she has enlisted the aid of virtuoso guitarist Andrew Green as both collaborator and arranger. More than willing to blur the boundaries between jazz, rock, pop and country, the duo have succeeded in creating a highly polished and well thought out merger of the genres. A Stranger in Town expresses it's own distinctive perspective on heartbreak, emancipation, shattered illusions and hopefulness in its refreshing re-imaginings of well-known and forgotten gems. Zane is ably assisted by Green on guitar and electric bass and is given the space to show off her multi-octave range and emotional depth. Todd Isler on hadgini, Jorge Roeder on bass and Jordan Perlson on drums round out a stellar selection of backing musicians. Jim Clouse makes a special guest appearance on drums and Hamcrest Riverton hands in a memorable cameo on Zane's original, Girl at the Bar. The CD is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/adele3 .

He soon landed his first Broadway show: Cats. Carmichael followed his early success with stints on Broadway and in national tours in Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan, Les Miserables, and Phantom of the Opera, in which he understudied and performed the title role. MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II

Room (and time) for just one review today. I still will owe you reviews on the following shows: Chicago favorites Becky Menzie & Tom Michael's "Better Two-Gether" show, seen at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM on October 19th; Marcus Simeone's show at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM on October 21st; Rob Langeder's show at DON'T TELL MAMA on the 27th of October; Leslie Orofino at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN on November 5th.

On Wednesday, November 4th I was at DON'T TELL MAMA for Nicole Kafka's "Vamps, Vixens & Villains" show. Unfortunately, it was the same night as (what turned out to be) the final game of the World Series and Ms. Kafka was faced with the daunting task of performing an exciting fun-filled show before a rather small audience. Shows like this get a lot of their energy from the reactions of the audience, which, though small, was enthusiastically supportive throughout. Quoting Mae West at the top of the show with "When I'm good I'm very good, but when I'm bad I'm better!", Ms. Kafka treated us to a set of "bad girl" songs, from "I Wanna Be Bad" to the classis "To Keep My Love Alive." Dressed "flapper style" she made full use of her wardrobe with "10 Cents a Dance" and very seductive "My Heart Belongs to Daddy". Ms. Kafka is an exciting performer who shows by her actions that she loves the art of cabaret. Musical director is David Shenton and the show is directed by Eric Michael Gillett.

There are three more performances - Wednesday, November 11th at 9:15 pm, Friday, November 13th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, November 15th at 6:00 pm.

No apology to Craig Coursey today. He always delays his lunch hour on Mondays & Thursdays until the newsletter arrives. We're actually right on time getting this issue out! (but 1000 words over our 10,000 word goal).

I have a lot more to tell you about - but no more room/time to tell it.

And that's just about the way it was. Until Thursday then.
